I'm a little nervous about the current Honda Pilot that I am working on. I have gotten behind due to some extra polishing so I just finished applying the Opti-Coat 2.0 tonight. Reason that is making me nervous is because the owner is coming to pick it up TODAY (Sunday) at 1:00 and it is HIGHLY likely that it will be raining. I know Opti-Coat recommends 24 hours before it gets wet and I'm probably only going to get 9-10 hours of curing before it gets out in the rain.

I hope you guys can tell me that from first hand experience the coating will be fine because I can not ask the owner to get the car Monday.

The answers we get on this are never quite consistent, but it has been said several times it's safe to get it wet after an hour.

I'm a pro installer.

It is recommended that you don't get the car wet a minimum of 12 hours after installing.

That being said, I've got cars wet out of necessity just a few hours after installation and have never had a problem.

As I said, we can never seem to get consistent answers on this stuff. On the Optimum forum I found several instances where Chris said you could get it wet after an hour, and that was for 2.0 with its slower cure.

Making Optimum's Coatings curing issue more befuddling:
Their total cure time can be up to 90 days.

Yeah its kind of annoying all the different thoughts but my opinion is based off both knowledge and experience. I'm sure other pro installers think different times are preferable.

Thanks so much for the replies guys!!

All that worrying and now he is perfectly ok with leaving it till Monday. It was even his suggestion. I'm going to just to be on the safe side. It definitely can't hurt to prolong the time it sees rain and it will give me a little more time to do some final details. It's definitely nice to know for future reference that the curing time doesn't HAVE to be a full 24 hours. I hope I'm not cutting it this close again, but I know that's wishful thinking.

Thanks again guys!

Ok it takes 1-2 weeks to fully cure this is coming from chris. I tell my customers not to wash for at least one week.
