I understand Opticoat 2.0 is for clear coats, but after reading positive reviews of them on single stage paints, I decided to do the same with my Mitsubishi L200 with Rosita Red last December 2013.
After polishing, I performed a strip wash using Optimum Power Clean to remove polishing oils(If there was any, I used Menzerna FF3000 which is water based). I followed it up with IPA wipedown. I got a few high spots on application, but I decided to leave them until OC is fully cured before removing them.
4 months after applying OC, I can tell that it is still there because of its beading characteristics and the ease in which I can wash my paint. I also decided to remove the OC high spots that I have.
Here's the problem.
Area 1: Single Stage Paint
Defect: Water Spots
Polish: Mothers Pre Wax Cleaner (No Cut)
Method: By hand, microfiber towel.
Result: Paint Transfer, water spots removed.
Area 2: CLEAR COATED bed cover
Defect: 2x2 inch OptiCoat high spot
Polish: Mothers Pre Wax Cleaner (No Cut)
Method: By hand, microfiber towel.
Result: High spot removed
It seems OC is still holding up on my paint but it is easily removed by any light polish or even a paint cleaner. I'd like to know if there is something that I did wrong on my application(or maybe a bad batch?) for Opticoat not to fully cure on both clear coated surfaces and SS paint. I still have more than half syringe and I plan to re-polish my paint and apply OC again. Thanks!
