I was thinking of using Optimum Opti-Coat 2.0 on just the roof of a white 2011 BMW 5 series. The reason being, I really despise getting on a ladder or stool and polishing/waxing the roof. Also, no one really sees the roof, but it still gets a lot of exposure due to the fact it sits perpendicular to the road.
Question: Will it look odd on a white car to have only the roof of the car treated with Optimum Opti-Coat 2.0, while the rest of the car is covered by a traditional sealant (Menzerna PL)?

I don't think it will look odd at all. But why not just do the whole car and save from having to do any polishing or waxing?

I like polishing and waxing and trying new things, etc. Just not doing it to the roof. Then what would I do with all of this "stuff"?

^^^ exactly why i haven't done opti coat yet to my truck!

You "may" be able to see a line from where it goes from the OC to the paint. This is the reason why Optimum recommends re-doing a whole panel if you have to correct a spot.

Yes , this is what I was afraid of. Do you think it will be less noticible on lighter colors?

Makes plenty of sense to me. Just use OC across the entire roof (panel) If the panel you are talking about curves down or something continue the OC until the entire panel is coated. Is it the pillar that continues off the same panel? if so coat until you reach an edge.

If you only do to the rain channels youll never see a difference.

On most cars that would include both rear quarter panels, at that point you might as well do the whole car. Heck I would just do the whole thing anyway.

:whs: Front to Rear: window seals;
Side to Side: rain channel to rain channel; or,

To assist in this endeavor, (Opti-Coat 2.0 app.), or other choices you may make on this or other vehicles?:

Or what's pictured below? J/K :).....In whatever choice you make, take care of yourself.....Bob

I "like" to polish and wax my vehicle. (it's a PU truck and not my Daily Driver)
To me the look and slick feel of a good sealant and wax is awesome to behold.

I hate doing the roof. I need to use a ladder and step bench.
"Optimum Opti-Coat 2.0 (Only the roof?)" never crossed my mind.

I believe the idea you have (Only the roof?) is a real winner!
In my case I have distinct lines from the doors at the roof.
There will be no issue finding a hard stop line or "blending".

Now i'm looking forward to putting OC 2.0 on the roof!

....Great Idea!....

:iagree: that what I did initially - then did whole car since I liked it so much.
Corey I PMed you

My thought process is to avoid the high labor intensive work especially things that I will mostly never look at.

Other candidate for OC to reduce labor - Rocker panels, lower part of front and rear skirts

You read my mind. I was little more worried about the lines. Can you see a real difference in terms of gloss between panels with OC next to those without? (also I think those portions you mentioned are good candidates because they get dirty so fast anyway, so the difference in gloss is probably negligible once dirt gets on it.

Oh for Gods sake just OC or CQ the whole thing, you wont regret it ;)

gatoman39 I think you have a great idea. I feel the same as you. I hate doing the roof and I would not know what to do do with all my sealants and waxes that I love using. You have hit on a happy medium. Now I'm thinking about it.

I would suggest putting the opti-coat on the roof, head/tail lights, rockers, wheels and glass. Then you can play around with waxes and sealants on the rest of the car as normal.

I was thinking about doing this for a couple weeks. The roof of my SUV is a pain to polish and wax.
