Well this is what im dealing with soon seeing as how the weather is getting better.

My question is can i use OC and Op on the bow of this to remove swirls and if so should I not use a cutting pad and just stick with a polishing pad, becasue I have never worked on a gel coat only cars and im not sure how they work comapred to cars.

I was planing to do the rest of the boat with Poli-seal and then toping it with collinite 476 or 845 which would work better?

Any other advice would be greatly apreciated!

Oh yea, is it safe to go right over the graphics if they are in the gel coat?

I have only waxed boats. Nothing like that in size either.

I probably wouldn't use a compound or even a heavy polish on a boat though. I will let the boat guys chime in.

Gel coats are typically much much harder than CC. I've taken a cutting pad and OHC on blue gel coat which didn't knock everything down totally after a few passes...

From the picture that boat looks like it is in pretty good shape. Most products for cars can be used on boats without any issue. I am not familiar with Optimum though. I would think you would be fine. I currently use 3M Imperial Compound but I wouldn't mind trying something else.
Please provide pics with your results.

I've used Meg's #80, XMT#3, OP, OHC, and probably more.

Every situation is different. To me the best combo for boats that are in fairly nice shape is #80 and NXT Liquid Tech Wax.....topped with Max Wax.

Collinite makes VERY durable waxes for marine applications;)

I would use Collinite, Megs I believe has a good Marine line as well. I use Collinite on our waverunner and ski boat, and the detailer who does our Cig uses Collinite as well. I can't see stuff like NXT or Max Wax holding up to ocean/lake water abuse. Collinite will though, especially in the ocean.

Nice Fountain btw.

I have a boat to do this weekend, before accepting the job I did some research at my boat dealer and on-line (properboatcare.com). I'll let you know how it turned out later after I get a break.

I think im gunna hit the bow its really swirled due to bad care from my dad when i was not there with OC and do the rest with poil-seal ill send Optimum a email and ask them and then post what they say
