Orbital Polishers - Please advise

I am looking to buy a Orbital Polisher and looking at the Porter Cable 7424 xp. Is this a good poliasher for the money. I would like to get the flex but it is a lot of money. Anybody try both of them that can give me the pros and cons. Please help me find a nice polisher that wont break the bank? Thanks a million
 
I was advised to go with the Griot's six inch. Many forum members prefer it to the Porter Cable and say it has more power and it is quiet compared to the PC. I haven't recieved it yet but I just placed the order yesterday!

I started with a Griots DA (lifetime warranty), still have it and it works very well. Then I started hanging around this forum and got an Flex 3401.
If you doing your personal cars the Griots works great. If you're planning on doing professional detailing? I work go with the Flex or Rupes machine. As time is money in this business.
 
I plan on using this for my personal cars. I have a Jeep Wrangler and a Toyoty P/U and SUV. Thank you all for your time and advice.

Certainly either the GG6" or the PC would be perfect. The GG6 has a bit more power than the PC along with a lifetime warranty. You can't go wrong with either but I would go with the GG6 and a 5" backing plate and 5.5" pads.
 
For those of us doing our own cars and perhaps a friend or relative's from time to time IMO you can't beat the GG DA. It has more power (torque) than any of the other machines which you'll come to appreciate once you get into this and it has a lifetime warranty. Equip it with a 5" backing plate and 5.5" flat pads or MF pads and you're good to go on anything you might have to tackle.
 
I personally own a PC and after using the on multiple projects and jobs, it's decent. However, I feel like I would've preferred the Griot's Garage 6". I think a little more power would have been a plus. Just my $0.02.

I have only used the PC, and from the sounds of it, I should have gotten Griot's! That's what I get for buying before joining AGO. That being said I have no regrets with my PC, but I only use them on personal cars. Really, price over anything may dictate your decision. When I'm trying to decide between two highly rated products, usually price is the final determining factor.
 
I have both, I upgraded from an old craftsman 8 or 10" orbital to the PC using 6.5" Lake Country CCS pads...........huge step up. I bought the flex 3401 about a year ago, and it is definitely at another level if you need something that will remove scuffs, scratches, or just need something that will do a better job with a cleaner wax. The biggest difference in my opinion is the forced rotation on the Flex, the PC will stop spinning if you apply too much pressure. If you don't have the issues above to worry about, the PC is works perfect in my opinion.

The Flex will walk on you a bit until you get used to it, but that's pretty minor in my opinion.

I'm a hobbyist detailer, but have been anal about my vehicles since the day I got my license..........far from a professional. I don't regret my Flex purchase one bit.
