OxiClean is a laundry detergent supplement and is a Bleach product. Why is this? OxiClean contains sodium percarbonate as one of its ingredients. When sodium percarbonate dissolves in water it becomes hydrogen peroxide..Bleach. Bleach has a way of destroying the very fiber of many materials.

IMO...Immediately action needed: You should completely wash out any OxiClean residue and throughly dry those seat-belts--hoping their integrity has not been compromised!

I'm no chemist but isn't common household bleach sodium hypoclorite? And isn't Oxy Clean just soda ash really? I would think its the oxidizing nature of bleach that would be harmful... Oxy Clean doesn't do that to the extent that chlorine bleach does...

-OxyClean does indeed have soda ash (sodium carbonate--used as a water softner for hard water and aids in removal of its minerals)
-OxyClean also has sodium percarbonate that when dissolved in water turns into a bleach--hydrogen peroxide--that's my concern.

To what extent of using: "OxyClean doesn't do that to the extent that chlorine bleach does" am I willing to accept? I will forgo OxyClean for vehicle usage (especially on seat belts!). IMO...It's a household only laundry-booster bleach product.

I have poured bleach on clothing. It discoloured it and ate holes. I have used Oxy Clean as a paste on clothing. It does not discolor it nor does it dissolve the article of clothing. Those are my observations.

Accept it or don't.

Hydrogen peroxide is very short lived when exposed to light, if its been a few hours there's already none left. OxyClean is actually quite gentle. I would bet that most clothing fibers are much more fragile than any automotive fiber. I think you're safe.

I just spent the last 20 minutes googling oxyclean. It's a mixture of sodium percarbonate and sodium carbonate that generates oxygen when activated with water to loosen dirt from the fibers of the materials. The process is similar to using hydrogen peroxide to cleanse a wound. I'm no chemist, but nothing I've read indicates it would do fabrics any harm, except that it's not recommended for pure wool or some silks.

Thank you. I guess some of us are just bursting at the seams with knowledge that they just can't wait to share with the rest of the world. Regardless of whether its only partially correct...

yeah i just checked the car and everythings fine...haha

has anyone ever had a bad experience with ANY product on carpets/upholstery/floor mats?

i hear so much about dont do this or that, but rarely do i find that something got messed up. (with fabric at least)

Ive been using oxi-clean for carpets at least 9 years now with no problems except for once it left some white residue because my batch was a little strong.

I've been using OxiClean and Woolite detergent for years on interiors and I've never once run into any problems resulting from it. :dunno:

I have been using oxiclean for a long long time. Kids clothes, carpet, deck stains, laundry, never had a problem. One thing it will do is oxidize aluminum and titanium. My wedding ring is titanium and I have to take it off if im going to use oxiclean. I didnt once and it started to turn black. it polished right out no problem.
