What would cause oxidation to return a few days after compounding?

Looked good/great immediately after polishing compound.

It was never removed to begin with. It may have looked like it was removed from left over polishing oils or polish fillers. That's the only explanation that makes sense I could think of.

Is that paint single stage? When polishing did your pad turn the color of your paint? If it did try Meguiar's #7 which is meant for single stage paints. It will give oils back to the paint.
