This weekend I was polishing/sealing my new Grand Sport. I was applying Menz 4500 with a gray 6" kompressor pad with a 5" megs backing plate, setting of 5 on my PC. The pad kept moving off center and finally just came off. I finished with a kompressor red pad but it to starting shifting off center and each time I stopped to apply more 4500 I would have to recenter the pad. these pads are ~ 1 year old. My question, after multiple uses does the backing on these pads wear out or is the problem with the backing plate? following the 4500 I applied Wolfgang DGS with a kompressor gold pad and had few problems - which would seem to indicate that the backing of these pads was too worn to stay attached to the backing plate. I am a hobby detailer on my DD so these pad see little use. Any thoughts?Feed back please

Interesting.

I like the Kompressor pads on the rotary buffer but it seems the spray splatter dots more when used with a dual action type polisher.

The pads are cupped shaped, I'm not sure if that could be causing the issue you experienced.

Velcro does wear out, how old and how used is your backing plate?

:)

Mike,

The backing plate was purchased last summer as part of a Megs MF kit/Porter Cable package, so it is right at one year old. The kompressor pads were purchased about a month later

Did the pads ever get really steaming hot from either using them with too much product or with residual water in them from cleaning them? I've had both pads and backing plate get hot from these situations and it can melt the velcro backing on either and the pads won't hold well.

Just a thought from my own experience.

thanks Dave,
there was no water and not really any excessive product, but it was very hot and humid when I was working. I think I will just get a few LC flat 5.5 inch pads in place of these
