Pads for 7424XP Beginner

Hi all, I just picked up a PC 7424XP from the sale amazon is having. It came with a 6" backing plate and was looking to get some pads for it. Not really sure what pads (Cutting, light cutting, polishing, etc.) or combination of pads I should get. I also planning on picking up some Meg's 105 and 205 to use for swirl removal and I already have some mezerna powerlock which I've been applying by hand.

So if someone could suggest a good set of pads to use for a beginner in machine polishing that would be awesome.
 
Since you are planning on doing some swirl removal. It would be best to get some 5.5 inch pads. You can use 6.5 inch pads, they just take a lot longer and the Porter Cable can handle the smaller pads easier. That said, I would pick up a couple orange, white, black, and red Lake Country pads. You can use the orange, white, and black for polishing. You said you were going to apply Menzerna Power Lock by hand. That will get the job done, but personally applying a sealant by machine is much better. You use less product, you are able to spread out a thinner layer(which is better), and best of all the machine does the work for you. So you would use the red pad for applying the sealant.

Thanks for the response. I was planning on applying the power lock via machine. I meant that I am currently applying it by hand since I didn
t have a DA.
 
you can also get the meg's 5.5 inch microfibre system which comes with a 5 inch backing plate, microfibre cutting and finishing pads, D300 compound, and D301 AIO...
 
I dunno, I think the Optimum MF pads with the Hyper Compound and Hyper Polish, and some GPS for good measure. Just have to wait a few weeks for the cutting pads to come out.

If you want to remove swirls you really want to get a 5.5" backing plate and 5.5" pads. You can do it with 6.5" pads but the larger diameter and thicker design dissipates the energy coming out of the tool and this shows up as reduced ability to rotate under pressure.

When you remove swirls, you're applying downward pressure to the head of the polisher, 15 to 20 pounds and you want to see the pad rotating.
