Is there any way to figure out the hardness of paint ? i see many posts that talk about different cars with different hardness of paint and i was wondering if there is anyway to test for that? For example i have a 2013 infiniti g37x and i was always curious as to how hard/soft my paint was... im also curious as to which products (swirl removers, compound, polish) would work well with my infiniti's black paint

Only true way to test for it is to perform test spots with various products/pads to see what your results are.
You can typically make some assumptions based on experience - ie it is almost always the case that a Jet Black BMW will have very soft paint, and that a black corvette will have very hard paint. Take these generalizations with a grain of salt and remember that anything is possible! For instance, a car could have been repainted and may have completely different paint than what you are expecting.
*I have never worked on a G37, but I believe they tend to be on the harder side? Someone else can chime in with more confidence.
