I’m pretty sure I know the answer, but going to ask anyway. I bought a new to me 2016 Toyota Land Cruiser in Magnetic Gray. It had a PPF film bra covering the front 1/3 of the hood. The PPF was absolutely trashed by southern sun, environmental fallout and years of road rash. It had to go.

Removal was a pain, but I got it off. And I was left with ghosting/fade on the hood. Amazingly, the front fender edges that were also covered with PPF don’t show any signs of fade.

I’m pretty sure that I’m stuck with it, but has anyone tried anything that might work to lessen the obvious difference?

Start with the least aggressive method of polishing and go from there, sub'd to this thread for results

I don't think you'll be able to do much of a dent in the color difference.

When we bought my youngest daughter's Honda Fit, it had some old OEM vinyl pin strips running down the doors that was aging poorly. After removing the stripes, there was an obvious, quite visible, color difference; though not as obvious as what you're dealing with. I've polished out the car a couple times and it never altered the ghosting at all. This is likely because polishing only effects the clear, and the color difference is due to the sun fading the colors in the uncovered areas of the base color coat below the clear.

+1...or the clear is UV faded/changed and you can't polish enough off to fix it.

I've seen this type of ghosting disappear on its own
Park it in the sun as much as possible, come back in 30 days and report back
🤓✌️
