Hello guys,

This question is for those of you who do paint touch up jobs.

I have a car with a deep scratch that goes to the primer coat to work on.

The owner doesn't want to have it repainted so I offered to do a touch up job for him to make sure no rusts forms on the body panel.

Here is my question: I am gonna be using the duplicolor touch up paint bottle. Normally a leveling fluid is used to make the touch up paint flush with the rest of the paint job. I won't have time to order a kit with the leveling fluid.

What do you suggest I do? Should I use some kind of paint thinner to do the job, I assume that is what the leveling fluid is... so can it be replaced by mineral spirit or something else?

If not, can a heavy compounding be enough to do a good job? I will be using a Meg's Dual Action with a 3" backplate. I was thinking yellow pad with M105 for the initial work followed by Ultimate Compound and finished with M205.

Any suggestions or comments welcome.

Without a leveler you're going to have to wetsand to get the touch up level with the factory paint.

Anybody have experience with paintscratch.com and there paint? there paint is separate from the clear. Also can you use a DA for this fix?

Very interesting post.... Let me ask all of you a question.

I've to do a little correction on one of my fenders.
I don't have a Paint Thickness Gauge.
The car has never been repainted. Would it be risky to wet sand with a 3000 or 2500 grit?

I'would be removing sandin marks with a griots garage and orange or wool foam thick pads and M105...

Thanks for your help!
