Alright guys I'm new here and trying to get familiar with car care and all it's products. #I'm about to order a 7424 and have some Qs about what products to buy. #Remember I'm new to it all and am looking for good quality but also be user friendly.

1. #I need a recommendation for a good clay kit!

2. #The big one here is what polishes, waxes do I need. #Now reading through some posts I see that different colors may require different products( lighter & darker)! Since mine is both I need something for both. #Here's a picture of my car to give y'all an idea of what I mean...

Is the picture showing? I might have to fix it when I get home, I posted off my iPhone.

Mystic paint, the pro's can answer this one! I'm willing to bet for wax, Wolfgang Fuzion or possibly Dodo Juice Supernatural. But really you never know around here! Where's Tad since this is about a Mustang?

The waxes and sealants that are based on color is more of a recommendation, or a compliment to that color, doesn't mean you can't use it for other colors. For the Ford Mystichrome color I find that any wax that works well with dark colors will work well with the paint.

That color looks terrible when you have swirls in it, and BEAUTIFUL when you clean it up.

I am by no means an expert but I have detailed a good number of cars and do it as a side business on the weekends.

1. As long as you get a good named brand Clay (Pinnacle, DP, Mother's, Wolfgang, Poorboy's, etc) you will be good. I have a tried a few different ones and I find that it's more of the user than the product when it comes to clay. Make sure don't give too much pressure and plenty of lubrication.

2. Your link is broken, so we can't see the condition of the paint. If it just has alot of swirls in it without too much oxidation, hazing, etc, you can probably get away with the Menzerna SIP/106FA combo or the Wolfgang TSR/Finishing Glaze. Follow that with a sealant (Wolfgang deep gloss sealant works very well for dark colors) and carnuaba wax (Dodo and Fuzion are awesome for dark colors) that thing and it's gonna look better than new!

Hope that helps.

So I need a polish, glaze, sealant, and a wax? The glaze is the same as a finishing polish right?

one of my associates at bank owns the newer Mystic Cobra (I believe only 1000 were made). He loves Four Star UPP and Wolfgang on it. The flip-flop coloring is clearly apparent when detailed properly.

I can't get the pic up right now but you can see my car in my avatar. Just looking for something that's user friendly, works good with the 7424, and works well with all colors of my paint. Also can someone explain IPAwipedowns?

IMO you should go to the BOGO and get the Wolfgang TSR and Glaze. They also have Four Star clay and Spray Wax. The Spray Wax is a superb product that is as easy as a QD to use. I would recommend Four Star UPP or UPGP for sealant.

Well some pictures would help. Can't go wrong with meg 105/205 .You didn't mention what pads you were going to buy and i assume you are buying the XP Porter cable. When it comes to paint correction on a Mustang one name comes to mind he is a Mustang expert and that is ASPHALT ROCKET

Also can someone explain IPAwipedowns?

Using Isopropyl alcohol to wipe down the panels after polishing to remove oils left behind by some products. You can buy it at Walmart pretty cheap. There are several recommendations to use mineral spirits instead of alcohol. This can be found at places like Home Depot or Lowe's.

For you Mustang you are going to need the Meguiars 105 and 205 since your paint is on the harder side. The Wolfgang stuff is just not going to be strong enough for you. Also keep in mind that polishing the paint is what gives you shine, depth and clarity. The lsp is just there to protect all your hard work. I have done numerous Mystic Mustangs and Wolfgang sealant, Souveran, Poorboys Natty's Blue, Blackfire sealant, Zymol Vintage, Lusso Oro beta wax, and several of the high end Swissvax waxes all they all looked great.

Oh mannnnn, that's thing's screaming for an 85RD final finish and some Zaino......:drool:

All of the Mustangs I have worked on have had fairly soft paint, was able to dial in a succesful procedure with just M205. guess it just depends on that one car since you wont know how hard or soft the paint is until you go out and start working on it.

Be sure to post pictures when your done. :props:

What year was the Mustang, the newer ones all have harder paint. If it was newer I would have to say it might have been repainted.

The 96 I could see being soft, but the 05 has hard paint from the factory.

My mystic is a 1996! So is it hard or soft? I've also been told the megs 105 isn't very easy to work with if your a newb, truth?

Also I will be getting extra pads, probably CCS orange, white, and blue. There is only one spot on the car with some minor scratches but the rest of it is just swirls.
T
Also to clarify if anyone doesn't know...

Mystic and Mystichrome are completly different colors from different years! Mystic only in 1996 cobras and Mystichrome on 04 cobras. Same color changing characteristics but different colors!

I looked at your code for the photobucket image in the first post on this page and it might be the reason the photo didn't show up is because of the way a word was spelled using lowercase letters instead of upper case letters.

Is this the picture you wanted to show?

What does the paint look like under bright light?

Do you see swirls in the clearcoat? Look at the pictures below and see if anything looks familiar as it relates to your car's finish. T

When it comes to polishing paint, here's the basics...

  • Evaluate the condition of the finish
  • Use the results of your evaluation to help you choose the right products
  • Use good technique
That's the simple version but it's how you approach ever detailing project. After you gather your products and pads the next thing you're going to want to do is called a Test Spot.

That's where you test out your products and process and dial in a system that works perfectly to one small area and after you prove your system to your test spot then you simply duplicate that process over the rest of the car.
