Ok, so after a little bit of research, my GF's miata has no clear on it. Would the SIP be harmful to the paint?? Should i just i just hit it with the nano?

The only thing is that the swirls are too much for the nano, but im afraid of damaging the paint with the SIP.

you should have no problem with SIP on non-clear coated paint. My car is single staged black and the SIP works like any other polished I've used.

btw, i used the SIP with a rotary.

Unfortunately, that's the case when you're working with a single stage paint, and a polish/pad that cuts :(

use the least aggressive polish that can get the job done. Do a test spot. If you feel you need more aggressive polish then step up.

you might rub the paint off your car

Not unless he tried or was using a rotary with no common sense

You really need to stop thinkin CC/paint is so thin that you will where it away by lookin at it. You have alot to learn about paint correction.

Thats the case with ANY painted surface if your using very aggressive methods and not using any common sense.

It is no diffrent than polishing a CC'd car. The paint will be thicker on a Single stage car, so you can polish it like normal. You will remove paint (just like removing clear). You will no go through it unless you try. Treat it like any normal CC'd car and go at it.

I would have to agree with coupe and greg'sgoat, just becuase there is no clear coat dosen't mean you cant treat it like you do the vehicle with clear coat. So far I've only done one vehicle with out clear coat and I just did what I normally do with any other vehicle. It actually tourned out that I didn't have to go too agresive and was quite easy to remove the swirls/scratches.

Ok, that sounds good.

Ill try the nano first, but i dont think it is going to completly correct the swirls.

Now, if my UDM would just get here i could start, lol

I have done several cars without clear coat. It doesn't matter if it's clear coat or not, every time you bring in machines and polish you will eat some of the paint in the process. Imagine going with the PC on your own skin ie, same thing.

Well back to subject. It's no big deal to work a paint if it hasn't been polished several times before, it's easier to be no1 to make it look good. Take your time and be aware that the paint is thinner on the edges of a door or a hood.

hmm not to threadjack but i dont think it would be neccessary to make a new thread but... what is a good way of testing if a car has clearcoat or not besides attempting to polish it and checking if paint comes on the pad?

1) check with the manufacturer
2) Get a paint thickness gauge (if it reads 0, then you got no cc)
3) Do a search on AGO on your car and see what comes up
4) AFTER DOING A SEARCH, make a new thread and post your car's year, make, model, and color and see what people say.

Hope that helps.
