maybe i am old fashion but 6000orbits/minute seems to be a little fast. and to start with a speed of 2600 orbits/minute. there where very few times i had to turn up my old makita to 2200. how good is this machine? i have had a 4year absent from detailing so please allow me to catch up before you beat me up.

It's a lot different then the rpm's of a rotary. To spread my polish and compound, I'll have it off and spread around the panel, then turn it on to speed 2 to spread a thinner coat and go up to 3-4 to work it in. Then finally speed 6 to break down. But I have the Edge Pads, the other manufacturer pads don't seem to like speeds higher then level 5 setting.

The PC needs 5-6 to at least make good use of product, it doesn't have the power or heat transfer of a rotary which can break down product very fast.

so what you are saying is the speed the pc uses is fine then? never really been a big user of orbital polishers. usually turn down the makita a use a finishing pad for waxes and polishes.

Yes, the speed is different. All of what Surfer said is straight on the money. I run mine at speed 6 90% of the time.

Kick up the speed on the PC to full tilt .... never do so with a rotary. 1300-1800 max.

You put the DA on the surface before you switch it on. Under the pressure of that contact it will barely spin at all--it mostly just vibrates. In fact, you will be bummed and say what the heck is this. You will think it is broken.

I found this out when first using Menzerna, thought it didn't work very well.
Just recently started using it again and the pc has to be @6 to get results.
After reading through this forum, I now know how awesome this product is.

Wish I could get those same results with Menzerna FP II with a Rotary so it didn't take all damn day. I would love to know the technique.

Is there a write up on here explaining how to use the pc?

Honestly, you can read about using the PC until your eyes fall out and you may never be comfortable with using it or even all that skilled. Personally, I never felt 100% comfortable that I was using the PC right until I watched Mike Phillips' video on how to use the PC. He sells it on his Show Car Garage website for $25. Alternatively, you could learn from him in person (for free if you're an MOL member) at one of the Meguiar's detailing classes.

Normally, I wouldn't post in this forum about non-Autogeek products out of respect for the 'Geek. However, they don't sell a competing product at least that I am aware of.
