I lost the washer that comes with PC XP.. that tiny little washer that goes between the pad and backing plate..

I am sure it is one of the standard size available at the hardware stores.. does anyone know what size this is, and if I can find it anywhere for really cheap (don't want to by couple dozen quantity that most hardware stores sell... )

I think it's a 5/16 size fiber washer. I picked one up at Ace hardware before but it has been a while so I don't remember the the exact size.

There's a good picture of one in this article,

5 inch Backing Plates on Meguiar's, Griot's and Porter Cable DA Polishers

This is a Compression Washer - Don't lose it and don't use any backing plate without it.

I've seen various sizes, as long as the are larger in diameter than the diameter of the face of the free floating spindle assembly they will work.

See how it fits inside the brads on the attachment plate on the back of a backing plate

Basically any compression washer about the size of a nickel or a quarter will work...

Look in the plumbing department.

All sorts and sizes of fiber washers there.

Maybe someone could measure one up and post his findings so other owners not fortunate enough, means lost it, to have one could go out and purchase a few....

I've even tried finding a manual that might indicate it's size but no luck...

You ask...I give. In a minuet while while I grab a mic.

OK: Thickness= .070"
Dia= .930"
Hole= .30" (this a tad tight)

This is the original washer that came with the PC. Had a lot of use on it. So in the beginning, it was probably a smidgen thicker. It doesn't have to be real thick, just enough as the rivets (on the BP) have clearance to NOT hit the spindle 'stuff'.

Hope this helps...

Thanks. I will try to get something slightly bigger in diameter than the screw, like Mike said.

You can use a quarter as a guide, just take your backing plate and a quarter with you to the hardware store...

See this article,

The Compression Washer

The common Compression Washer used with popular DA Polishers is about the size of a U.S. Quarter.

I found a compression washer at Lowes that was close enough.

BTW, I pulled out a Meguiars 6" backing plate (W68DA) I have, and it turns out that the washer ring is actually glued to the backing plate! I wish Lake Country and other manufacturers did the same to make it more dummy proof (or iLLusiOn proof :-))

I have attached some pictures of the Meguiars W68DA backing plate... if some manufacturer representative is reading this and wants to take a cue ;-)
