I have a dark metalic paint that needs to be sealed and waxed before winter comes i will use Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant 3.0 two coats and i can't decide which wax i should buy i know Fuzion would be perfect but what would be my second choice of wax for dark metallic paint with flakes. What's the choices besides Fuzin?

Fuzion is a great wax but it's not very durable. If you are looking for a durable winter wax look into Collinite 845. If you are looking for a durable wax WG Sealant is good, Menz PowerLock or DP Poli Seal are also great choices.

I don't think I'd be picking Fusion as a 'winter' wax.

I'd be putting down a nice coat of a paint sealant then topping it with Collinite Liquid Insulator Wax #845.

I like 915 for winter prep as it hangs around a little longer then 845

sounds like a plan i will order colinite 845 thank you

after u apply colonite you can top with a nice show car wax like souveran . to give it that extra gloss...

For winter to be honest, I'd just stick with the sealant. Maybe go to a 3rd coat, but forego the wax altogether. You aren't really going to be gaining anything over winter by topping with a wax that will wear off fairly soon. You can top the sealant with your fuzion for a temporary pop, but really in the grand scheme of things you aren't gaining anything with it.

:iagree: I lay down a coat of quality sealant like Wolfgang or Menzerna and follow it up with a protective layer of Collinite 845. :props:

Have you ever used 845? Stuff doesn't wear off that soon.

Expected protection from the Collinite web site:
Liquid/Gel Wax (845 and 925): 5-7 months depending on UV exposure.

Paste Wax (476, 885): 9-11 Months depending on UV exposure.

I understand many variables will affect life span of a product, 845/925 should easily last a winter however.

That's the thing about Collinite 845 - it's a carnauba with uncanny durability (so I've heard). It's by far the most popular winter wax for cars in northen climates because it'll hold up against salt, sand, snow, ice, sleet and everything else northern winters throw at us. I ordered two 16 oz bottles to stock up for the winter since I plan on waxing my entire family's fleet of cars.

The longest of all the Collinite's is 476. Apply a couple of thin coats before winter and it will still be beading water and protecting come Spring 2011. The others 845/915 are also great but lack the durability I'm looking for as a winter wax. IMO.

But the reason to use a wax in my opinion is to essentially make the sealant 'pop' if you will. Collinite lasts a heluva long time, but really lacks that 'pop' that a lot of other waxes have, and dare I say it, isn't near as deep as WGDGPS. That in my book makes me wonder why to top DGPS with it at all? Really doesn't seem like you gain anything at all.

FYI I'm from the north...Iowa...winters are spent in iowa and indiana. My parents drive plows for the state for emergency snow removal. I'm more than familiar with the white stuff :)

For winter I put down 3 or 4 coats of KSG and then two of WGDGPS. Lasts a long time and looks great on my metallic grey. If any washable weather presents itself I follow it with WG spray sealant to prolong the regular stuff. Two years now and I never run out of beads come spring. I am garaged though.

coli's webpage i "Think" rated 915 at one month less then 476 in durability and 845 1 month or two under 915... I heard great things about the look of 915 so I tried it out and I loved it and so did the clients who's cars I put it on so i never had a huge need to go to 476 as i get tons of durability out of 915 with easier workability....

But either one "Should" get you from end of oct to march....
