I know this has been brought up before in the past, but I kind of feel like is was danced around and not answered very well. How much percentage of Souveran is carnauba and what type, white or yellow? Other sites offer this for informational purposes and I would like to know personally, just to know.(especially after caughing up the dough for it). I like to know what I am buying. Could somebody PLEASE clarify and let the masses know what I know a lot of us are wondering? Thanks!!!!!

around 35-40 for Souveran paste...

Where'd you get that info from?

I was wondering the same thing. Most "good" carnaubas have 45%+ carnauba content, as I thought. Guess not.

Example:

CG's XXX - 47% Brazilian #1 Carnauba
CG's 50/50 - 50% Carnauba
CG's Petes '53 - 53% Brazilian white Carnauba

I really want to try out those waxes. Interested in how they compare to SSII, Souveran Paste, and DP Max Wax.

Well try them and DO NOT sugar coat the results:p J/K bro.......all of the waxes listed here are VERY good, including the CG's. I have yet to try Sig Series though. I've only heard incredible things about it. Unfortunately I have a tub and a half of Souveran, 2 tubs of Max Wax, and some CG's XXX(not to mention Natty's and others), so not much need for SSII right now.

I like SSII more then Max Wax. Ive only used my Souveran once or twice.

ss2 is awesome great on metallic paint. i love that stuff .smells great too.

I've tried Pete's....I forgot how it was but it was an easy wax. The only Pinnacle wax I have is SSII and I love it! I'm actually "saving" my Pete's for a future car....but I will use it sometime again soon.

Percentage of wax content- most carnaubas advertised with 50% or more Carnauba wax content is truly advertising a weight, not a volume. 30% by volume is about 50% by weight. That's why you never can truly assess the amount of carnauba in a manufactured wax unless the manufacturer specifically lists its content percentage by weight or volume.

As TOGWT offered above there is little proof that one carnauba has more or less than another as measuring them can be done in two very different ways. What is known is that about 35% carnauba by volume would make it impossible to add/remove. Thus products like Souveran have about as much as possible while still making it user friendly. As Dengood offered, it is truly more about the final look than the ingredient also.

XXX is 47% Brazilian # 1 White Unbleached and Yellow Carnauba by volume (90% White, 10% Yellow). It also has polymers in it.
Pete's 53' is 53% Brazilian # 1 white Carnauba by volume.

...yes, up to 79% in Zymöl Solaris.

But this percentage indicates only the carnauba part of the whole wax package. For example if the products contains, say, 50% wax (beeswax, candelilla wax, montan wax, carnauba, etc., you name it) then the 79% refers to the carnauba percentage of the mentioned 50% wax content. The other 50% are the oils, additives, biocide, etc.

Usable carnauba percentage of the whole product maxes out at around 36%.

Bence---thank you for your example. That makes sense to me. I had always read that 35% of the total volume (wax plus additives) was about the max amount of carnauba without making the wax difficult to use.

Here's a somewhat related question. How is carnauba harvested? Is it a renewable resource? Is the process eco-friendly?

Edit:
I just looked it up on Wikepedia. Not too much information, but here is a bit:

"Carnauba is a wax derived from the leaves of a plant native to northeastern Brazil, the carnauba palm (Copernicia prunifera). It is known as "queen of waxes" and usually comes in the form of hard yellow-brown flakes. It is obtained from the leaves of the carnauba palm by collecting them, beating them to loosen the wax, then refining and bleaching the wax."

"Carnauba wax contains mainly esters of fatty acids (80-85%), fatty alcohols (10-15%), acids (3-6%) and hydrocarbons (1-3%). Specific for carnauba wax is the content of esterified fatty diols (about 20%), hydroxylated fatty acids (about 6%) and cinnamic acid (about 10%). Cinnamic acid, an antioxidant, may be hydroxylated or methoxylated."
