pinstripe removed, now I got an outline?

I removed a pin stripe, well not really a pin stripe but a long pin stripe sticker shaped like barbed wire. Now there's an outline left from where all the other paint around it has faded. It's on a 10 year old neglected work truck that's never been cared for. Will compounding/polishing eliminate this outline? Anything else I can try?

Got any pics? I bet it's mainly because the surrounding paint is so swirled out and the paint under the sticker has been protected this whole time. Compounding and polishing the paint to a uniform appearance should get everything looking in tip-top shape again.

If this is a clear coated 10 year old neglected work truck..you will never get the faded paint to look like what was covered for those 10 years.
