pinstriping and polishing

what do you do to keep from damaging the tape pinstriping when you clay and also when polishing ?

Painter's tape. I put it on pinstripes, decals (like the DOHC VVT).

do u put the tape right on the pinstripe or just above it ( say your doing the detail work above the stripe? so when you pull the tape off it doesn't pull the stripe off also . i hope not !!!

I put it on the stripe. Painter's tape is pretty low-tack. I haven't had any problems so far.
