Hey guys, I recently started my detailing business while being a full time student and have usually two cars a week scheduled. I am wondering what you guys do to pitch sales to banks, and other business firms?? I have seen many bank employees getting their vehicles detailed but am still shy to walk in and try to pitch my sales to them being only 19.I am a business student and I do need to work on my communications skills but they have greatly increased the past months.

Please let me in on anything I should say, shouldn't say, and how to even present myself and who to talk to at first.

Thanks guys!

Get some business cards made. I went to a barber shop. A lot of men goto barber shops. A lot of men love their cars looming nice. I Offered to detail the owners car at a discounted price for him to carry my cards.

His car was also an example of my work.

I kept a count of my customers from that single idea. 48 cars in the last year. This is all supplemental income for me.

I plenty of business cards already made. I keep a lawn sign out at the main intersection of my neighborhood being of higher income housing. I have some business cards that were set out months ago from my helping girlfriend. I have had a couple calls from them but I am still timid to go to other places myself.

Make yourself different than the competition.walk into a bank with business cards shirt tucked in and be confident.maybe do a 25 dollar wash for free and then the word will be buzzing from one employee to another and it will happen fast.when walking in a bank tell them you are new in town and I provide detailing services if you are interested.when I moved from ny to fla back in 2003 my very first clients were in realestate and I used that scenario and grew from that.invest in nice menu price list cards have it glossy on bothsides that tells them that you are committed in what you do stay away from vista cards, expect to pay 550 for nice cards.work on being confident with yourself.many years ago I was working in garage shops where there wasn't any retail customers,so as the years went on working for merc dealer and small detail shops,I was in the same situation I had no people skills period.overtime it will correct itself as you become more demanding and feeling comfortable we all have to try and be humble so we can put food on the table .what you put into life is what you wil gain out of life.so keep your head up and be confident and you will be fine.

Or try Valpak that mails to 10000 to 20000 homes offer a teaser rate.then alacart everything like extra for clay more for a paint sealer etc

We have a crew of hacks washing cars every week at my job. Their process is comical it's a pressure wash, scrub with dirty rag, dry with dirty towel, spray tires with a slimy dressing. They do 15 -20 cars every Tuesday for $25 each. My co-workers apparently have low standards, their cars are clean but getting hammered to death.

You wont win these types of people over as clients, they are happy with the cheap wash and are blind to the damage.

You can't compete on price, or you will be working for free. Try to go for the nicer cars and sell them on a proper wash that doesnt swirl the heck out of their cars.

True! Until 3 to 4 years down the line when their paint looks like 10 generations of spider families spun web on it for 6 years. Then, they will need a real detailer to undo the hack jobs they paid for over the years

Your are gonna have to fix that confidence promblem, whether it's detailing or tossing dough in the air for pizza.thats all I can say for now gd luck.

I was struggling to get my name out there, just like you. I created some really nice Gift Certificates, and dropped off two at each VERY LARGE real estate offices, with a note that I know they run contests, and these could be used as a prize. The next day I got calls from the Office Managers, thanking me. The first winner, got an extra special full blown detail. That went back into the office and got me off the ground.
Two of offices were so happy we are now included in a Welcome to Your New Home kit.

Why not put those guys out of business by offering an ONR with wax wash and tire dressing for $25? An ONR wash does not take long and looks incredible.

Don't compete, dominate.

May I ask what was used to create such a gift certificate and what was offered within it?

Within this next week, I believe I will try this. I have received a call back from a fellow bank which my gf left cards at stating they wanted two cars done but I was unable to do so due to school and exams that week. Should I return in person or just give them a call back? It was the front desk clerk of the bank that called and wanted to set times for the other employees and their vehicles.

Call back, LEAVE MESSAGE. If they don't call back go visit in persob, be prepared to do work right then and there.
