Placing Order, What should I get?

My car has some light scratches and swirl marks that I would like to get rid of, I guess I want to do a paint correction.

Here is a picture of what I am dealing with


I am going to be ordering some stuff probably tomorrow.

I currently have
Porter Cable 7424XP
Lake Country Orange, White, and black 5.5" CCS pads
Pinnacle Fine Swirl Remover #2
BlackFire Gloss Enhancing Polish
Pinnacle Carnauba Finish Glaze
Rejex Paint Sealnt
Meguiars NXT 2.0 wax
Mothers Claybar
3M Rubbing Compound
I also have a few different microfiber towels from AG.

I tried the orange pad and the 3M compound last night on a small area but I did not have any luck. Will this 3M compound do the trick if I get a different pad? I saw in another thread were someone recommended the Surburf R sereis Pads for Meguiras M101 or Menzerna PG1000. Would that be a option for me with the 3m compound?

Also what kind of clay bar lube do you guys recommend?

I am also going to order
2 grit guards
A flexible backing plate
Areospace 303
Pinnalce water spot remover

Is there anything else I should get to add to car cleaning stuff?
 
You should look into Menzerna FG400 or M101. If those are too much for you then you can look into M105. If nothing else had worked for you then stepping up to a good compound will be next. If you go with either of those you will want to follow that up with either Pinnacle swirl remover of BF gloss enhancer polish. Then top with the sealant you have.

I use M34 final inspection for a clay lube.

Thanks for the reply!

I guess the best thing to do would be to order some Menzerna FG400 and some Meguiars M105. I can start with the M105 and if it won't do it then I can step up to the FG400. Should I use a yellow pad? I may also get some Surburf R sereis pads. I'll get some M34 also.

Honestly I think the cut between the two is too similar for you to step up. I'd recommend choosing one and picking up some Megs/Opt/LC?etc... MF pads. They will have quite a bit more cut. If you need more cut use more passes/more pressure to vary the effects.

So you think go with just M105 instead of both and a pad like this.

I think either will do just fine. M105 is kind of the tried and true compound, whereas FG400 is brand new but getting rave reviews. Either one should get the cut you're looking for. I believe unless you're doing this as a business, pick one compound and get proficient with it before trying more out.

As for the pad that's a Rotary pad. You want the ones designed for a DA (like the PC7424XP, Griot's Garage 6", etc...), personally I've used

Meg's Here

Optimum is another option, I haven't used but are on order

or LC (note they don't have separate cutting/finishing pads, this is due to a foam difference only from my research but your call)
 
I'd work on your technique before I willy-nilly start buying more products. Pressure, arm speed, etc.
 
I'd say you need to check your technique and dial it in because, imo, that 3M rubbing compound along with an orange pad on speed 6 with the pc should have no issues removing those scratches. The only thing left to critique then would be arm speed, and pressure. Buying more products won't fix this issue in my opinion because you already have quality products.

This 3M Perfect-It 3000 Rubbing Compound, car polishing compound, auto paint compound in my opinion will work just as good as M105 and have a longer working time. I didn't say it's better, but just as good. Why buy another product if you don't need to.

As far as you xmt #2, I have no idea since I've never used it, but according to the AG description it should serve you well coupled with a white Lake Country pad.
 
Thanks for the replies. I don't want to buy more products if what I have will do the job but if I need something else I will get it. I will try the 3M compound again tomorrow with the orange pad. When I tried it before it did not act like it was doing mutch. It is 2 or 3 years old, I don't know if that would effect it. I am sure I don't have a good technique.

I washed off the sail panel on my car which is where the picture I posted is from to do some more experimenting. I tried the 3M compound with my orange pad with the DA on 6. I had to apply a lot of pressure but I got most of the scratches out of it after 3 or 4 applications. I stayed away from the edges, I guess I need to tape them. I guess I need to get a yellow pad and a microfiber pad and experiment.
