My clients 05 Bmw 3series has some type of glue or adhesive on the driver rocker panel. I tried using megs body solvent and apc+ and neither did a thing! I let it agitate for atleast 10 minutes too. So if you have any ideas they would be greatly appreciated!:props:

Here are the pictures:

Try something like Stoner Tarminator with a plastic razor blade, or you can use a clay bar. I'm pretty confident the clay bar will take it off, as I've run into this kind of problem before and a clay bar took it all off with a little effort, the only thing is it will probably ruin the clay bar. So if you don't mind going through a clay bar (or part of one) then I would go that route. Just make sure to use plenty of spray detailer.

That looks like road paint, atleast it looks like a car that I did that had road paint on it just like that. I had one H E double hockysticks of a time getting it off. Id say clay is one of your best bets.

I tried using plastic razor blades and rubbing compound as well sorry.

But nothing affected it.

rubbing compound. its what I use for the car's I do that enjoy a often trip to the track.

Also a possibility. Meguiar's just came out with a new rubbing compound that costs about $6. So far the only place I've seen it is Advance Auto Parts. I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to try it, as it's not the old "rocks in a bottle" rubbing compound that people used in the past.

wow thats nasty. i would say tarminator, maybe some lacquer thinner (be careful). Personally, i have never had any luck taking anything like that off with clay. and like someone already said, get a pack of plastic blades.

I ran over some industrial strength paint and it splashed all over. The only thing that removed the big blobs was acetone and elbow grease. The tiny spots were removed with clay and pressure

If you're sure it's adhesive, Stoner Xenit works exceptionally well at removing stuff like that.

Check out these pics from when I detailed our old forklift the other day. :buffing:

You can see that with a little elbow grease and a microfiber, Xenit cut right through the adhesive. Letting it dwell made it much more effective.

This stuff was a bit more caked on, so I used one of our tire scrubbing pads.

And after a little XMT lovin, this is what it looked like.

Sorry to say but that looks like Line Striping Paint. It's a thermoplastic material. If you use a blow dryer or heat gun (LOW!) it should help soften the material so it can be removed with a solvent. CAREFULLY!

Thanks for the help everyone! Today i am going to try a few of the ideas listed above.

Hi SouthernStyles,

Sorry for the late reply, was working on a behind the scenes project this morning.

Good pictures! That helps.

Is it rubbery? Or solid like dried epoxy?

Either way it will be tough to remove an not harm the paint. Try the products recommended already as the goal is to find something that will dissolve the glue without harming the paint.

There's a new company that offers a number of different paint and adhesive removers and some of our forum members have had luck for their application.

Here's the link to their website,

Motsenbocker's

I would call them and try to find someone that works on the technical side, even steer them towards your pictures in this thread and see if they have any suggestions.

Here's their contact page, where you could copy and paste the link to this thread,

Contact Motsenbocker's (They're in San Diego = Pacific Time)

and their Customer Service Phone numbers

Direct: 858.581.0222 ext.110
Toll Free: 800.346.1633 ext. 110

I've found some of their products available at Lowe's which means they're likely available at other hardware stores also.

Besides that there's the usual,

Goo Gone
Goof Off
Turpentine
Mineral Spirits
Lacquer Thinner

Plastic Razor Blades
Popsicle Sticks
Your fingernail
40 Grit sand paper to knock the top portions off to start with

And whatever you can find or thing of, in a perfect world you could find out exactly what the substance is, locate the manufacture and ask them for a way to dissolve it safely.

Best of luck and please update this thread with any updates...

:)

If it is in fact Thermoplastic Striping, then it is glycol ether and isopropanol, mixed with glass beads. Heat will soften the material and make it pliable. Basically the stuff is indestuctable. That's why it has to be abraded to be removed on a highway. Unless of course you DON'T want it removed, then it just falls apart.

If you think about it, any paint used on roads or highways has to be incredibly tough to be driven on over and over again and hold up to so much grueling wear and tear.

Try Steaming It. Try heating it. It is road stripe paint. MEK (Methal Ethel Keytone) but you need to know what your doing. Too much and you can injure the paint. It is paint bonded to paint ! Which is what presents the challenge !

***Bump***

Any updates?

Any success?
