Im working on a black Range Rover right now. The hood and front fender went fine. Then I start on the drivers side door and all the sudden my polish starts drying right after spreading it. Ive tried rotary, PC, different pads, cleaning my pads, different polish, priming pad, not priming. Spraying water on the paint helps for about 2 seconds.

Temperature in the garage is around 70*, no idea what the humidity is.

What am I doing wrong guys? Ive never had anything like this happen before.

What kind of polish are you using? I have detailed black cars, in the sun, and have never had this problem. Strange.

Ive tried SIP and OPT CO. Ive tried using different amounts of polish too. Nothing works.

Do you have 106ff? Try that, with 2 dots 106ff and 2 dots Optimum polish. Is the paint warm at all?

Ill try 106, and see what happens. I just dont think thatll be strong enough to remove the imperfections.

Paint was cool. I even turned the halogens off and took a break, came back and didnt make a difference.

Of course I run into all these problems during my last week of detailing for this summer.

Try it and see. If that don`t work, something is spooky!

You tried Opt Compound and it dried to fast? That is really odd considering the work time Opt line has, I never had that problem even when it was hot and humid as hell out in South FL. Definitley strange that it happened to your other polishes as well.

Dan..I had something like that happen before....and All I could figure was it was something to do with the temp and weather..it was Humid that day also...the polish just flashed so fast...I even tried 3 different polishes....a couple hours later I decided to try again...worked like a champ...

Did you try spreading the polish on 2 on the PC....water does not help most times..it just dilutes the lubes in the polish and they flash very fast and screws the cutting powers...I have done the OPt Polish and helped the best...3 pea size of the cutting polish and 1-2 dabs of the Opt polish...

Same thing is happening with 106. Something has got to be wrong here. Ive never had a problem like this before.

Humidity is 49% according to weather.com I spread it around on speed 1 using the PC. Then its dry by the time Im ready to turn it up. It literally dries within 10 seconds.

I am lost..your temp is not hot..its actually dry air...panels are cool....but try with the lights off since the lights do throw heat...just use to check your work...its worth a shot....I never had Opt dry out like that..I do not use it much now since it takes so long to clear out...work time can be very long...even with using just a few dabs....

Spray the panel with cool water and wipe and then try it...

and try a little more of the cut polish...not much more but enough to see if it will stay wet....

Alright, did it. Im going to give it some time, chill out a little bit. Sometimes thats all it takes. So well see.

Good! Lets hope it works. If not, casper is in your garage :p

Hi D&D

I had the same problem on my car saturday night and have had it happen on customers cars now and then.
It was cold inside the workshop. I did the lower part of the left front door and it kept hologramming from dry buffing due to something in the paint.

A stronger clay bar and prepsol solved the problem.

It is either silicone in the paint, needs to be clayed again as contaminants will make the polish dry up and gum. the paint may need another alcohol or prepsol wipedown.

When I do a second clay and prepsol, the problem goes away.

Hmmm. If opening the garage doesnt work, then Ill try claying again. I have been doing an alcohol wipe down before buffing though. Thanks for the info.

Also I forgot to mention that some cars just don't like a particular polish
Sometimes what the owner has applied in the past can affect what it likes

I know that mine doesn't like dinitrol 7020 or sonus sfx 2 anymore
The Fireglaze DS sealant I use today must of affected it somehow.

Alright, Im lost. Took an hour break, garage door open, a/c off, lots of alcohol wipe downs. I did clay the car with 4 star, but I havent tried RECLAYING it. I dont understand why the hood and front fender worked fine, but nothing else is?

Is the paint that you're trying to work on now, kinda cloudy looking even before you started to polish?
