I use the Lake Country 3" adapter on a cordless drill. Works like a mini rotary. Whatever is not reachable by pad gets addressed by hand, but this polishing method works well just need to remember to have an air of delicacy since as you said "everything is curved" so there's the possibility however minimal of doing some damage by burn-through.
What's pleasant about the cordless is the ability to torque-up or torque-down, variable speed from almost nothing to 500rpm and of course it's cordless and small so it handles quite easily.
I don't know if it qualifies as 'best' but it is 'good enough'.
