Hey guys,

I have to polish an aluminum hood and was just wondering if i have to follow the same process as with the rest of the car?

I'm using a makita 9227c

Thanks

Nothing different on my aluminum Lac hood using my 9227C.
What products are you using?

It's actually a very good question. In this video, a detailer discusses how the material of the body affects how much you polish.

He starts talking about it in depth at 8:40.
The entire video is worth watching, I think. Really great car.

Are you, by any chance, detailing a Delorean?

Blackthorn One's above post is spot-on when it comes to polishing various painted-materials/substrates on vehicles.

-Not only is stamped-aluminum being used in place of stamped-steel (hoods, for example)...
But think of all of the different plastics/composites also being used.

-While weight reduction/better MPG may be some of the concerns for OEM's...
"Heat dissipation" while polishing, among other factors, are concerns of detailers.

I also agree…wholeheartedly…with Blackthorn One’s following assessment:
It's actually a very good question.

I'll add: Thanks for asking!!

Deloreans have brushed stainless bodies, not aluminum, FUNX. fyi. Perhaps you thought he thought DeLoreans were aluminum, though . :)

seeing this reminds me of my dad having his delorean in the 80s, and using fine steel wool to polish it.
