polishing back of an ipod

Hi all, thought of something. Why not appy my knowledge of detailing to other areas. Thought of polishhing the back of my ipod by hand. I got some lighter scratches out, but It is black on the rag and major scratches still remain. I have tried

any ideas on how much I apply or work time

What gen iPod? Is it a metal or plastic back. I've had good luck with plastX on my electronics. I polished out my monitor base and it took out quite a bit. Some of the deeper scratches stayed but they're not as visible.

it is the 5th or 6th generation ipod video with the chrome metal back

I used a Flex 3401 on my iPod. Wound up selling the pieces to Gazelle...
