I have a 2011 corvette grand sport scheduled for this upcoming weekend. All the panels are painted fiberglass to reduce weight and I have some concerns as to how to go about removing defects. I currently use a 7424xp and was thinking if picking up some sonax perfect finish used on tangerine hydros to work on this car. I examined the paint and it doesn't have anything other than light swirls and marring.

I know gm paint is rock hard from past experience but would this combo be a little overkill or would it be good?

Also are there any precautions I should take when polishing fiberglass panels compared to regular aluminum ones?

Most people still think Corvettes are just made of cold-set fiberglass, which it was for decades, but with the modern Corvette, no longer. The Z06 has a body I believe is made of carbon fiber.

The C6 (non-Z06 model) body is made of five distinct plastic materials, all of which are technologically advanced and chosen for their particular application on the car:

  • polyurethane (rear fascia and grill)
  • polyester (hood, doors, and hatch lid)
  • SMC or sheet molding compound, (rear fenders)
  • mica-reinforced reaction injection molding (RRIM) (front fenders)
  • polycarbonate (targa top on the coupe)
Typically the clears on today's Corvettes is hard therefore requires more effort and the right pad and product.

I've found that my C5 Z06 responds well to Menzerna products.

You are right gm paint is hard. As far as fiberglass there is no difference. You are polishing the clear coat that is the same as any gm car. I like Meguiars 105/205,- Pinnacle Advance finishing polish,- Wolfgang Deep gloss sealant, then the next Pinnacle Souveran wax. Everything is done by machine.

Real gorgeous Vette in there mate ! I love !

Thanks for the replies. I'm currently looking for a polish that can be used as a one step on this corvette. I'm thinking SIP from Menzerna?

I would go with something smoother like FF or SF . it will be easier on the finish as well . Some might chim in .

I like the power gloss for my heavy cut. Super finish for a great finish polish. Menzerna makes great products. Always go as mild cut as possible but if you use to mild of a cut you want get the depth and you will work to hard. Do a test area working from less cut to more cut till you get the correct products. There is no magic product and every polishing job is different. I still like to start out with clay bar.

Gonna place a order for some Super Finish since the vehicle has very light swirls. Thanks for the help fellas :xyxthumbs:
