What's the correct way to polish a fender with a PC/UDM? It's harder for me to polish these areas. I have a "valley" on my fender that I don't wanna polish the wrong way. Here's a pic where my fender flares out:

Thanks in advance!

just go over it normal, nothing to worry about, not gonna burn the paint.. lol

This is a little off the topic but man you've got that paint looking great. On topic, I just lighten pressure.

THanks for the compliment! I really appreciate it :D. My first time using xmt 3 with orange pad on a fender...I kept hoping I did it right. I did hang the pad off the edge a lot and lightened pressure when I did...

R1DC2 - Haha well the fender's a little different for me, not like a flat surface (of course). I just need some tips to do this right :)

I'm not sure what pads you are using but the only thing I'd be worried about is the backing plate touching the paint. I use 7.5" pads that fully surround the backing plate so this isn't a problem for me. Just keep an eye on the edge of the BP and polish as you normally would.

Klum..smaller pads may help you out there. If you can't get in the crevice where the panel does a 90 degree shift..just do that spot by hand with a MF before you buff.

id have to agree with the smaller pads..i dont persnally have anything smaller than a 6.5 so what i do is jus get a mf applicator with whatever im using and do it by hand

carefull with the backing plate as everyone else says..but u should be fine...its only a PC!!! ur not gonna burn the paint if u know what ur doin...

by the way joseph

wg dgps, nano, paint cleanser headed ur way tonite! har har har...enjoy

Just stick with it and you will get better at it. On those valleys stick with the pads that you have now and kept practicing using your UDM. Just don't get the side of the backing plate to close to the finish on area's like that. From your picture it looks great!...Happy Detailing

:iagree:

The fenders looks sweet :D

Budman - I used the 6.5 inch CCS Orange pad with 5 inch backing plate that came with the UDM, so there is a lot of safety zone for me. It's pretty much impossible for me to hit the backing plate on the paint :).

Richy - Thanks for the hand polishing tip, I will have to resort to that sometime. I am going to get some smaller pads later.

THENIZZZEIL - Thanks Neil! Hahah can't wait to try them out :). Yes I am very careful with the backing plate. The 6.5 inch pads with 5 inch backing plate have so much room for safety.

zoomzoom_mazda5 - Thanks for the compliment :D. For sure I'll keep an eye on the backing plate.

Pirex - Thanks KT :p

Nice job!! You are getting great results in a short time. Nice pics too!!

Thanks med! I am getting the hang of this UDM, I just need to get used to fenders :)
