Polishing

How many time do you guys polish your ride? Will it do any damage if you did often?
1-2 times per year, good wash/drying habits = less polishing, and when you do, should only need a light polish to quickly take care of light swirls that eventually will show. Light polishing every 6 months is good to "jewel' the paint and bring back that fresh pop to it, and completely strip any left over product from months of adding on.

I am probably one of the most polishaphobic people you will ever meet. I always try to use the least agressive polish. So now for your question, i do not polish my ride more than a few times a year, unless if it needs it. some people will tell you otherwise but i believe that polishing a finish with heavy polishes too much will damage paint eventually. remember, when you polish you take off clear coat, and you only have a set amount, you cant keep polishing forever, it will eventualy run out. I use menzeran polishes right now, they are suppose to be the best on the market.

:iagree: It's all on educating your self, polishign is just one aspect of it. You need to learn how to wash the vehicle properly...there is more of course but these two steps will help keep your vehicle looking new for many years to come.

Thejoyofdriving - so you purchased some Menzerna, nice. What did you decide on? Just curious that's all.

Been reading about the Menzerna and i reckon it has good report due to the feedbacks from the forummers.Might get the SIP an d the PO106ff and the SigII series.or may be SSR1 and SSr 2.5,yet to decide.

I have to agree with Surfer and Nica on this. Yes, Menzerna is good but so is the PB's ssr line. They dust a lot less. I really like the 2.5 - you can skip the 1 after it if you like, or go with 2 or 3, then one.
I just tried the nano -po106ff today. Longer working time, more dust. Gets tough cc.
~Hope this helps!

One of the better polishes I've found to reduce imperfections and finish down the furthest is Menzerna PO106ff; I have found this polish to be foam pad ‘dependant’ as far as its paint correction abilities are concerned. On Ceramiclear and other hard clear coats (i.e. Corvette) and most other paint systems I would recommend a two level foam pad / polish to really bring out the paint. Start with PO 106ff and an LC Orange foam pad and follow with white foam.

So what Menzerna polishes do you use right now. Since you haven't received your 106 and IP?

How much material (paint) is removed by the various processes of finish care that we perform on our vehicles in our endeavour for that brilliant shine.

To demonstrate how much material is removed I acquired a damaged MBZ hood from a body shop that to the best of my knowledge still wears the original factory applied two stage black base / clear coat finish.

To perform my test I borrowed a paint thickness gauge from my pal and all around swell guy Brian White (forum name-deltman) This handy little device measures the material between the probe and a metal body panel (primer, base/colour coat and clear coat ) Mil (one mil = one thousands of and inch). It will also measure for body filler and/or evidence of a repair. If you want to buy one expect to pay $400+ for it.

When you are talking about polishing does that mean using a product like XMT360 or Optimum Poli Seal or just a pure polish?

Once a year if nothing major happens. You take away from the CC when you use a rotary which I do so I cannot go crazy all the time but still. Topping the sealant I do every now and then, it's good advertising for the dealer I work for.
