Purchased my PCxp two weeks ago, Love it my only concern is that during and after use it gets to hot to touch, at lower settings to apply wax it starts to smoke. My extension cords are 10 gauge. Even happens when I just use the weight of the PC without applying pressure. Has anyone had a similar experience? I love the results I get using my PC.

Smoke? Take it back. Smoke is never normal.

I was reading some post about the pad size I'm using the 6.5 ccs pads, with the xp , they are saying that the 6.5 pads are to much for the machine. Also stated using 5.5 pads are suitable for the xp. This may be the problem I will have to do some research today.

Welcome there..I'm a tad north of Montgomery.

I just got my PCXP about a week ago and mine does not do that. I'm using 5.5 pads right now.

I've used 6.5" pads on my PCXP and it has never started smoking... just gets bogged down a bit on anything below speed 5 or 6. If it is smoking it is defective and needs to be replaced. Mine has never been too hot to touch, even when paired with an improperly long/thin extension cord on a few mobile jobs.

Good to know thanks gents I will be returning it, for a replacement.

Make sure you use the washer. The smaller pads matter, but without the washer on the backplate you will get smoke.

It's electrical smoke, unit gets hot, to hot to touch or handle. Called AG sending a replacement as soon as I get the return shipment email.

Is the washer on the backing plate? Always worth checking.

I want to give an update on my PCxp, Bill and Tom I want to thank you for suggesting checking that the washer was on the backing plate. I did just that and I found that it was not on the backing plate. I didnt check to see that it was on when I changed backing plates, I replaced the washer and NO problems with the PCXP now. It was my fault and a great learning lesson, So I admit that it was my fault and will be calling AG in the morning to cancel my return. Thanks guys this a great place to ask questions from detailers..

That's great news Ross, and it offers myself a little bit of some reassurance that my upcoming delivery tomorrow of my own PC7424XP was not a mistake, and possibly feeling like I was buying some Pig in a Poke.

I did insure I bought a small pack of Spare Washers, in the event the original gets either damaged, or lost.

While I have a few around here, I might also as well buy myself another one of those cheapo Wally World/Home Depot Plastic Tool Boxes of the required size, that I can securely store the PC7424, and all important essentials, such as the backing plates, washers, etc. Mark

That little washer is a real pain sometimes. But is very important!

PRO TIP: Keep those little rubber nubby things that go on the tip of the thread post for each backing plate. It will keep the washer from falling off when that backing plate is not in use.

I love the PCXP used today with no problems, I will be ordering more washers this week. This is my first DA polisher love the results.

And, if you loose these little critters...back to the hardware store. There are little plastic thingies that are use to cap the end(s) of exposed bolts, all-thread, etc. All sorts of different sizes.
