Fellow Geeks,

Please post your most uneducated comments you have received in detailing history. I dont see this anywhere on the forums, but most of the times I laugh it off when I hear some comments about my car:

1) They say wow that car is really shiny probably because Lexus paint, little do they know that Lexus paint also has their issues. I ask you need a detailer? They say no I have one, I take a real look at the car and see the car and :buffing:

2) Wow that guy's a loser, he probably spends hours on his car each day to make it so shiny. In reality, I only have enough time to commit 30 mins to it weekly :xyxthumbs: and can probably get by far superior results than any car wash here, but little do they know I can get my car done in less time it takes one to drive to the wash and wait in line =). I really want to be able to help people like this, but they dont want to listen.

Post some of your comments ever received. Maybe us Geeks can take out our frustration here. Not sure if this is the correct post for this sub forum Auto Detailing 101, but here she goes! I have heard a lot more but only the above two comes to mind at this time. Lets share some comments, I know you've heard something outrageous before being auto geeks and all...

I don't know I don't listen to anybody lol, couldn't care less what they say. actually i have heard a few people say im going to wash the paint of the car or a similar clique. I say how about i wash the paint of your head? lol jk

"I've been using glass cleaner to clean my paint for years". I have seen people, with cars, do this at cruise nights 😩

I get your gonna wax the paint off the car ,how is that even possible you couldn't do it if you tried.Or did you wax the car. Some nubas drag and paint sealants give you that smooth velvety feeling. The worst is and aggravates me is some guy yelling across the parking lot asking me how much to wax his car.Thank God for wireless beats headsets I just ignore them.just yesterday a neighbor ask me to look at his Toyota he has scratches.I go and look at the car after a 10 hr non stop workday and the bumper is buckled and looks like he parked it in Manhattan for a year there was no paint in all the scuffs and scratches. Sometimes I ask myself how did these people come this far in life.I got plenty more but it's time to go to work.

Once while I was in Target buying a bottle of Meg's Ultimate Spray Wax - minding my own business - the guy next to me explained how good old carnauba wax was better then that fake stuff. According to him over time carnauba builds up a "permanent layer" on the car so you don't have to wax it anymore. If this wasn't enough, he went on to tell me he used to be a detailer in Hawaii - so you know, he has credibility on the matter. Who knew!

I just smiled, muttered something like "how about that", and walked away.

" It's raining, good my car is getting washed. I never wash it"

"Did you hear the new Kwik Trip (gas station) upgraded their touchless car wash, with a new premium "soft-touch" spinning brushes". $12 buys you the extra cost swirls and scratches. $7 still gets you the touchless.

Shouldn't Caution Be Taken On How
The Word Uneducated Is Used?

•Usually, when I hear the word uneducated
being thrown around, I see it as a means
for someone trying to find, allegedly, a nicer
way to call people dumb.

•IMO:
-The problem with that is: it’s not
too nice! And it’s...well...it's an
uneducated thing to say.

•The long and short of it:
-I'm a firm believer that there’s a
huuuge difference between being
uneducated and miseducated.

Or you missed a spot! I hate that so much! I'm only human, by far I am not perfect.

I Agree, it's not nice and Im not trying to bash on anyone, but I guess I experienced some frustrations starting this detailing gig. I am having a hard time educating the uneducated and they just dont want to listen and look at me all crazy. I been there done that, but everyday is an improvement especially with this forum and how everyone has their way of doing things. I am willing to learn new and educate myself even further especially with the ag forum.

lmao, to be fair some people only see their cars as transportation and not as an extension of their personality like we do

this is why i love the internet you can call people out on their bull chit and prove them wrong if necessary

Some older Corvette guy in Canadian Tire (Kind of like Canadian Autozone I suppose) told me as I was picking up a bottle of Mothers Spray Wax that if I wanted to save some money and time, just buy some towels and keep a bottle of water with me and make sure that before I do that though, I put on at least 5 coats of Turtle Wax Hard Shell and to put on one coat every weekend so the wax will keep the car clean. I told the guy to mind his own business or stop giving bad advice. Might have been rude but I don't walk around parking lots telling people with swirled out cars what they should and shouldn't do, so leave me to me.

Your always washing that thing. Does not matter you know. Their all worth nothing when you go to trade in.

"You're not really fixing anything.... you're just washing cars, right?"

Hey, hey, I'm from Hawaii and been building up my carnauba wax in order to not ever having to wax my car again.

One of my regular customers called me last week & asked if "that stuff you put on my car protects it from hail?" He said he'd driven through a hail storm & didn't get any dents from it. I kinda chuckled to myself & just told him that, while I'd like to take credit for it, the sealants I use don't offer that kind of protection.

I get: "Why bother? It just gets dirty again in a week."

I say to them: "Then why wash your dishes? They're just going to get dirty again next time you eat."

Or: "Why vacuum your living room? Floor is just gonna be dirty again in a few days."

That usually ends the conversation. ;)

Large scrape on corner of front bumper. "Ya I'm gonna try clay barring that"

"Why wash your car when its gonna rain on the weekend?"

"It's just a car"
