I'm going to write the builder of the subdivision that caused this but this is the damage - to the inside of the wheel...

wow, sucks big time. but dont think it did enough damage to throw off alignment

Well that sucks. How fast were you going?

I'm pretty sure my broken sway bar end link is the result of a pot hole.

Less than 30mph, the bent rim definitely causes rattle at 65-80mph. But it's the sidewall damage that makes me worried to go over 130mph anymore.

ouch. looks like a new rim and tire in the future...........

and get the front end checked.

Oh I know, and the rim lists @ $700+ and the tire @ $350+, not to manage the damage to the underside of the bumper & body.

Here's what the offending "pothole" looks like. It's definitely from the builder parking a heavy semi on the road for too long, it takes up the entire lane. And of course I didn't notice it in time because it was dark, raining and I had two kids in the back arguing with each other.

Pothole that takes up the entire lane...

You can get that wheel repaired to a better than new condition for around $200. While there are a lot of places that do this, I use Wheel Collision Center in Bath PA. They ship with a 24-48hr turn around time, powder coat, and do excellent work. They are local to me. But, when they send you that wheel back, it will be 100% true and new looking. Getting wheels repaired is just a fact of life of owning a BMW. Ive had the same wheel repaired due to damage like that 2-3x. It's a lot cheaper than buying new ones.

There likely is a similar place close to you that does this.

A friend in college hit a pothole in his GTI (BBS rims on it) and cracked the rim in two, which bottom'd out the car onto the underwork, denting the oil pan and destroying a brake caliper, and smashing some hardware around the sway bar. He ended up having to sue the CITY to get it repaired.

Here where I live you have to file a claim against the city if you want them to fix your damaged wheel and tire. They will then reject your claim stating they didn't have prior notice of that pothole so how are they held responsible. If it's a place still under construction, the city will then forward your claim to the contractor out on the site since they are responsible for everything within the site.

You definitely have a claim against the city/parish/state (depending on the road designation). I would pursue that in a heart beat. Considering that your damage may not meet the max, you can even sue them in small claims.

Did the road jump up and take a bite out of that sidewall?? that looks like one of those hungry hippo bite. :hungry:

And no offense to who ever said have it repaired but the wheel will never be the same even if its totally true round again even a much smaller pot hole if hit in the same spot will make thag wheel bend again... the metal is weaker especially if they are cast wheels...

I had the same thing happen to me Friday night after helping my buddy detail his truck. Not the same degree of damage, but I did get a flat and a bent wheel as my prize. The real kicker is that it's a lease that goes back next month... Good luck with the repair!

I'd at least check to see if a wheel repair shop will warranty their work. Beats spending $700+ for a new rim. Wheel repair is a very fast growing business. OTHO is you drive 130mph I'd opt for a new rim and paid up life insurance. I agree with you pot holes blow.

We all know it can be reconditioned, but unless their adjuster mentions it, shush, lol.
