I have a ‘22 F150 with pearl metallic paint, and the truck sits outside full time in Phoenix. The paint is still in excellent condition, and I’d like to try and keep it that way. I don’t intend to use a car cover.

It would seem that UV harming the top layer/clear coat is a contributor… but are there any proven ways of keeping the paint in tip top?

Use a good UV paint sealant and apply often. Remember you are protecting the clear coat and not the color coat.

If you don’t want to go all in on a full on ceramic coating go with something like Can Coat. Super easy to apply and durable and one can can coat 8 decent sized vehicles easily.

Find something with UV protection and use it often….

I'm a bit skeptical knowing how's the sun and UV in Phoenix.

UV protection is one thing but paint fading is something else under such harsh conditions.

We have been living in Phoenix since 2016. The sun is brutal on everything here. I am fortunate to have 2 garage-kept vehicles. I have a boat I keep in dry dock in Lake Pleasant. I keep it under a sunbrella boat cover. A PIA to remove/and install after each use but it keeps the gel coat and interior from baking out and gel coat fading and getting chalky.
My neighbor has a 2018 pickup that he can not keep in garage. Finally gave in and purchased a cover to try and protect clear coat on silver paint. I see so many vehicles with the paint faded and/or the clear coat gone on the horizonal surfaces of the vehicle. May want to consider some form of car cover protection. I just do not know any other way.

Such a harsh environment and we moved her from Fl. Will not retire here lol.

Paint fading is caused by UV. Coming from a state with the highest UV (yes Hawaii is a state). The problem lies in the frequency that the product is applied. You can't apply a spray sealant like Optimum and expect it to last indefinitely.
