I'm always amazed at how two people can have opposite experiences with the same product. After reading Sonic's interesting recent review of the PBBP (gallon size) I decided to check out my own and see how it's doing a year after I bought it.
While I never had the issue of it going "crooked" or leaking, I wanted to recheck its accuracy. I bought this product probably a year ago and have used it only with a gallon of Meg's APC+. It's never been removed or cleaned.
I decided to top of my spray bottle of APC + 1:4. It looks like there is about 18 oz in the bottle:
I know those spray bottles are about 1,000 mls when full so:
1000ml - 535ml(~ 18oz) = 465 ml.
Since the dilution is 1:4 (5 total parts) then I knew I would add about 3oz of APC+ and 12oz of water to fill the bottle to the approximate dilution.
First I dial the proportioner to 90 mls.
I've noticed when using this you want to dial it so the green line is right under your required volume, not the line at the top of the liquid after its full (like image shows).
Then, squeeze bottle to fill proportioner:
Pull back and hold proportioner cap:
Since I was testing the accuracy of this unit, I decided to pour it in to a 3oz measuring cup first. This worked out well, because I needed exactly 3oz. It was kind of hard though to pour into the little cup with one hand accurately and take a picture with the other hand.
Empty cup showing its 3oz when full:
Start by slowly tilting the bottle while holding the cap back with the same hand (normally I would use 2 hands):
When the proportioner got low enough, I even held the whole gallon of APC+ upside down with the proportioner's lid off to get every drop of the 3oz out of the measuring chamber:
As you can see, for me, the bottle didn't just "keep on pouring" or leak. In fact, it measured quite accurately:
I was able to use the one year old proportioner with no drips, no mess, in an accurate manner. Here is a picture of the area wear I poured the APC+, you can see nothing spilled due to the action of the proportioner:
Note: if you examine the pictures close enough, you will see a tiny bit of spilled APC+ in front of the measuring cup in the "while pouring" picture. This was no fault of the proportioner, as I spilled maybe a 1/2 ml due to my hand shaking while trying to pour into the little cup while juggling my IPhone trying to take a picture. Normally, I would dispense directly into the bottle (via a funnel) and use 2 hands.
Thanks for looking.
