So I got this new Subaru outback and some of the glue from the shipping wheel protectors appears to be stuck on the wheels. Mothers wheel cleaner didn't faze it so I hit it with some goo gone. It looked like it got the stuff but really just smeared it around. Now, it's a hazy spot that I can't scratch off with my fingernail, but can catch the corner of the area and a spot in the middle with the nail.

More goo gone doesn't touch it. I tried some meguiars clay, no go. Then I tried some non acetone nail polish remover (MEK is the first ingredient) and still didn't budge it. I do not have any polish or compounds to try yet.

Anyone ever run into this before?

Don't want to ruin a set of wheels with less than 2k miles on them......

That little spot in the middle of the second pic is shiny like the rest of the wheel

Yes they are clear coated. I've used that 3m adhesive remove on cars before to get tar off. I'll grab some and some compound and see what I can do.

I guess I should mention the spots are no longer sticky. I also tried la totally awesome full strength and no dice. Only let it dwell about 10 seconds.

Looks like some ultimate polish got it right off of there. Not sure what happened to it, it wasn't sticky at all after the goof off stuff. Weird.

Orange degreasers, Tar removal products like Tar-X, Adhesive removers, WD-40 are all products that should be able to remove it with little effort.

I didn't even think about wd40. Two quick passes by hand on a MF applicator with the UC got it right off of there though. So I'll just do that for the other spots. It's almost like the glue got hard somehow?

I absolutely loathe unwrapping new cars, glad you got it sorted out.

Late replying...also went thru this with 'her' '18 Subby. Used WD-40 and Meguiar's White Wax to finish.

Thanks for the replies everyone, I will try the wd40 on the other glue spots before I try the other stuff again. Just wish it would get warm enough to wash!
