Product Review: Meguiar’s D110 Hyper-Wash

Introduction:
I am on the never ending search for the best or perfect car wash soap. Like most I have many criteria that I am looking for. I want the soap to have great cleaning ability while also being gentle to the LSP. I want good lubricity to help minimize any marring from having too much drag while also being easy to rinse free afterwards. Let’s be honest if the scent is not pleasing we won’t want to use as much either. And price is always a factor when it comes to spending the cash. There are a few other minor factors that go into my thoughts and choices in choosing car wash; but these are the major ones I focus on.

Product Description / Claims:
Meguiar’s Hyper-Wash is a super-concentrated shampoo that has the unbelievable dilution ration of 400:1. There are 640 ready-to-use gallons of wash water in this one gallon bottle! Not only is that a great bargain, but the foam lasts an extra-long time. There’s no need to pour in more concentrate because your suds went flat. Hyper-Wash keeps going and going. Meguiar’s Hyper-Wash is a biodegradable formula. It safely lifts dirt and grime from your vehicle without affecting the washed surface or the environment.

Product Details:
Packaging: Clear 1 gallon Jug
Directions: A bit contradictory
Color: Orange
Scent: Clean Soap
Viscosity: Thin Liquid
Pricing: $27.99 @ 1 Gallon
Price per wash:
- 1oz per wash = 128 washes. $27.99 / 128 = $.22 per wash
- 1.6oz per wash = 80 washes. $27.99 / 80 = $.35 per wash
- 2oz per wash = 64 washes. $27.99 / 6427.99/64 $.44 per wash

Front Label:

Back Label:

Directions:
1. Dilution is 400:1
2. Mix 1oz per 5 gallons of water
3. Wash vehicle
4. Rinse thoroughly
These directions seem a little contradictory to me. A dilution of 400:1 is 1oz per 3.125 gallons of water. So for a 5 gallon wash you would really need 1.6oz of soap.

Warnings or Precautions:
Eye and skin irritant. Harmful if swallowed. Protect eyes with goggles and skin with gloves. Wash thoroughly after handling. Contains concentrated nonionic surfactants.

Testing:
I have used this soap quite a few times at both 1oz per wash and 2oz per wash. In my opinion on most well maintained vehicle the 1oz per wash will work just fine and get you more washes per gallon. I would only use 2oz per wash on those really dirty vehicles that you would rather be safe than sorry. For this test I used Hyper-Wash on my pickup. I have just a few basic photos of the wash because let’s be honest. It’s just a car wash.

Will the suds last the entire wash? This is what I have found the most telling about the quality of many other soaps I have used. In my experience the higher quality or better cleaning the soap the longer the suds last. Of course rinse-less washes are the exception to this. So her is what really matter to me. A timeline of the suds in my bucket as I did the wash.

Fresh in the bucket before starting.

This is just after finishing all of the paint. I also took my time on the wash. The empty bucket is my wheel bucket waiting to be filled.

I simply transferred the wash water into my wheel bucket for this testing. I usually do wheels first with their own wash solution.

This is the wash bucket after washing all 4 wheels. A note: I used a tire brush a wheel brush and a Daytona. I also keep them soaking the wash solution as I go around and do the wash. The first pic is the final amount and the second is me trying to show how thick the remaining suds were.

Pros:
- Good Cleaning ability.
- Easily rinses off.
- Economical
- Suds last the whole wash.
- MSDS labeled on bottle for detailers.

Cons:
- Non as of yet.

Questions:
- I have yet to determine if or how harsh it is to a nuba LSP.
- Is there a better bucket wash for a detailer?

Final Thoughts / Summary:
Meguiar’s D110 Hyper-Wash is a very underrated soap. It outshines many of the boutique brands in my opinion. The cleaning ability is great and at the same time it easily rinses clean. The scent is not overpowering or anything superficial. Simply a clean soap smell. Although not is this review it also does very well in foam gun and will give your dedicated “high foam” soap a run for its money. It is also very cost effective. At this time I would have no problems recommending this to a full time detailer or weekend enthusiast.

Nice review thanks. I might have to pick up some of this on my next order.

Thanks for the review! I may need to give this a try for the price!

How well will this soap work with a foam cannon on a pressure washer? Thanks.

I just used it this weekend and it works fine. I second everything in the review.

I primarily use the foam gun and performs just as good as the DP extreme foam and Pinnacle Car Shampoo.

What kind of a dilution ratio are you using in the bottle for you foam gun?

I only have a foam gun. But in the foam gun Hyper-Wash works very well. I usually use 1-2oz of soap. You will need to play with the dilution a little to get the proper amount for your liking.

Hey Troy,

Another outstanding review and I share your conclusions. :props:

Next steps

I also like the next step lines to further investigate whether or not the product at the recommended dilutions impact sealants and waxes.

Headlines

The bold headlines for each section combined with he spacing makes it so easy to follow and understand.

Dilution

I use a ounce of Meguiar's Hyper-Wash per 4 gallons of water and this seems just about right to me.

Going the Distance

I like the part of reusing the wash water in another pail to do the wheels and tires to further prove its staying power.

Photos

The photos clearly illustrate the integrity of the product and and what to expect if one chooses to try Meguiar's Hyper-Wash

Good guy and great review! :applause:

Thanks for your review Troy! I enjoyed it very much.

I, too, find this Meguiar's car wash shampoo to live up to your findings.
I especially like the foaming/sudsy attributes this product displays, as you have demonstrated. My Thanks, then, should also go towards the Meguiar's Chemists for finding the "just right amount" of their added 'foaming agent'...to compliment, therefore, this product's: "Lessened need for as harsh of surfactants", as some other car wash shampoo products.

Also...It's possibe that the surfactants may differ, but, my sentiments are nearly the same for Meguiar's M62.

Thanks again for your time/efforts for this review. :props:

Great review! Thank you.

I think 1 oz of Hyper Wash added to 2.5 gal of water is near enough to a 400:1 ratio.

Great review of Meguiar’s D110 Hyper-Wash. I wish every review on the Forum was as detailed.

It is pretty much the same price as Optimum Car Wash.

I have been using Optimum and like it; is Hyper-Wash better in your opinion?

I hear some on the Forum adding ONR to their wash media. Have you tried this? Do you see any benefit?

I have a Black SUV and continue to struggle with wash induced micro-marring. Bought an electric leaf blower to try this weekend.

Thanks,

Kyle Allen

First, Thank you.

Optimum Car Wash is very nice soap. My one complaint with it was that I found it hard to rinse off a vehicle. It seemed to "cling" for me.

IMO Hyper-Wash is just as good if not a more "well rounded" soap. It is slick when washing, creates good-great foam using a foam gun/cannon, and rinses away easily. Personally I would buy another gallon of Hyper-Wash before I bought a gallon of Optimum Car Wash.

I have and do add a splash of ONR to my washes at times. Since it has some "water softening" properties it helps if you have hard water. Really at times I can't really tell a difference when doing this but I do know the science behind it.

Using a concentrated lubricated soap and quality wash tool will do wonders to help reduce micro-marring. The CarPro wool wash mitt is IMO one of the best choices for a soft but effective wash media. After soaking it prior to use (it is a skin that should be softened by soaking prior to use) it is super soft and gentle, yet able to clean properly. After use and letting it dry, I use a pet brush to "brush" it to make sure the hair is straight and clean of all debris. And it only takes a few minutes but is well worth it. I also like the Microfiber Maddness Wash mitt. Buying a higher end wash mitt can make a huge difference.

I started drying with towels and then moved up to a leaf blower. After a awhiole I finally stepped up to a MasterBlaster. The MasterBlaster is in a whole new level of blow drying. And it really is a great tool.

Ultima Paint Guard Wash is my hands down favorite. Very economical (1.25 oz/5 gallon bucket) and has high lubricity level and rinses off cleanly. I've tried many different brands though not the Megs Hyper Wash and IMHO UPGW is the best shampoo out there - regardless of price. Works great in the bucket and in the foam gun.

I also agree with Troy, the CarPro wool wash mitt is a great choice. If your REALLY loving the MF Madness Wash mitt Troy, I'll order one next time I get need some towels. They're stuff is top shelf all the way around.

Troy, great review. Now I'll have to buy it. I wonder how well it would do in a foam lance. I guess I'll soon find out. Thanks for such a well thought out review.

I have, use, & love Ultima Paint Guard Wash. But when you compare the cost factor $27.99 vs $59.99 it is hard to argue with Hyper-Wash. I have had the issue where UPGW dries my hands out. I have also noticed it has something in it the helps it to cling and sheet water away; this is great but at time it also mutes the beading from coatings for a short time.

It actually like the MF Madness Wash Pad the best. IMO it is the perfect size and "stiffness". The wash mitt is bigger and a little to bulky for my personal taste. But i have found I prefer a wash pad over a mitt.

Thank you.

IMO Hyper-Wash will give most "snow foams" a run for their money in a foam gun or lance. And for me the cleaning ability is the same or better as well.

Sold & sold. Will put both of these items on my list for the next order. Typically how much Hyper Wash do you use - 1 or 2 ounces per 5 gal bucket?

I use the 1oz pumps on my gallons. So I usually use 1.5 - 2oz depending on how hard I press on the 2nd pump.

UPGW is very nice and possible a nicer / better soap for the 2BW when you want the little extra and sheet water away. But for me Hyper-Wash is a better all-around soap as I use it for Foam gun / cannon, 2BW, wheel wash. I think I could literally use nothing but Hyper-Wash from now on if I had to. But I love car washes and have 15+ right now.

Great review, may have to look into this product down the line!
