Meguiars Bug Splatter Sponges, meguiars bug and tar remover, bug sponge

Remove bug remains before they damage your paint!

Safely remove baked on bug splatter off virtually every exterior surface of your vehicle in minutes with Meguiars Bug Splatter Sponges! By removing bug remains shortly after contact, you preserve your vehicle’s delicate clear coat finish and eliminate the risk of etching or staining. Meguiars Bug Splatter Sponges are double sided (foam/terry) sponges that remove bug residue without scratching or marring even the softest paint systems.

Bugs are acidic and if not immediately removed after contact occurs, they can etch or stain your vehicle’s finish. Having a protective layer of wax provides you with more time to remove the bug splatter, but it’s not a guaranteed way of preventing etching or staining from occurring. Meguiars Bug Splatter Sponges are individually packaged so you can keep a handful at home and a couple in your glove box for safe measure when you travel.

Removing fresh bug splatter is easy, but doing so without scratching your vehicle’s finish is not so easy. There are a million and one ways to remove bugs the wrong way, but very few ways of removing bugs the right way. Meguiars takes the guess work out of properly removing bug splatter with Bug Splatter Sponges.

Meguiars Bug Splatter Sponges work great for rinseless and waterless car washes! Simply rub the bug-infested area in a gentle, circular pattern and wipe away the bug remains. Removing bug splatter has never been quicker or easier thanks to Meguiars Bug Splatter Sponges!

5 individual packets per box.

I wanted to do a review of these as I havent seen one done.

First off I want to say I am a big waterless wash junkie and wanted something that I could incorporate into my regime that wouldnt call for a hose to wash off such as some of the spray on type cleaners need.

I tried these out on my wifes wagon which we have driven probably 500 miles through desert to see Red Rock Canyon, Valley of Fire State Park, and out to the winery in Pahrump. We all know how it goes for running highway speeds for extended periods of time will turn the front of your vehicle into a bug catcher.

Now with the car having gone that distance and accumulating a week and half of dirt and grime the car was pretty dirty. I pre soaked the front bumper cover heavily with Meguiar's RFEW in a spray bottle diluted 1oz to 32oz rinseless wash. This is more than enough to breakdown the surface and lubricate the front end.

The sponges are two sided with a nap on one side and the regular sponge and the other. The side with the nap is for scrubbing and the other side is for the final pass.

For anyone that is a waterless or rinseless wash junkie I recommend these sponges.

Pinnacle Waterless Wash was used and the the washing agent and was wipe downed with Pinnacle Crystal Mist.

Please bear with me on the picture quality until I get a new camera and feedback welcome.

Looks good, thanks for taking the time to do this review. I've got a black 99 mustang so I feel your pain when it comes to bugs. Lol

Nice review Mike. This would be perfect for people traveling to car shows.

Thanks Chris. This would also be a really good thing to carry along in a mobile detailing kit for the road.

very good review Mike!

looks like another megs product, must have.

Hi Mike...

-Thanks for your review of another Meguiar's product that:
"Does what it says it will do"!...
Can't beat the evidence presented by your before/after pictures! :props:

-My only disquietude is what negative effects, if any, the unique formulation
contained within these sponges could impart to PPF (clear-bras, et al.)

....I'll purchase a box of these sponges and do a:
"Test Spot" on some PPF and report back.

Afterall, and has been previously stated...
-They'd be good for over the road trips/Car Shows...
-And: They will do windows!

:)

Thanks Tim. It is a must have as a great alternative to the spray products. Very easy and convenient to use.

Thanks Bob. Very nice product to have on hand for waterless/rinseless washes.

Dont know about PPF as I dont have any on my cars. Would like to know though.

Amazing review, Mike! Great and detailed pictures as well. This product seems to work effectively.

Did it leave any scratches or micro-marring?

Looks like I'll be picking these up in the future.

THANKS for sharing.

Nice review!! can you reuse?

Thank you. No these are disposable so there is only one use per pad.

Thank you Marc! It is a very effective approach to removing bugs.

Couldnt really tell if id did leave any scratching as the car needs a polish anyways.

Be sure to pick them up.

Nice write up Mike, before and after are a huge difference. Of course with the LSP on you vehicles I'm surprised anything sticks.
Single use........wonder what the maximum bug carcas count could be?
Good for glass, mirror covers, headlights, does the pad degrade while using it?

Thank you Steve. Im surprised a bit as well and the last LSP is the wagon is Fuzion.

Not sure what the count would be. I didnt notice any degrading of performance just a lot of bugs stuck to it. If the vehicle had twice as much as it had I would have then used 2 just because of the fact that the sponge can only hold so many. If you were to rinse it off you are effectively washing out the soap.

How much RFEW do you have? I'd like to try some out. Does it foam well? I'd like to test it in a venus pressure spray bottle to see if it can be used as an alternative to using a foam gun. I got some cg stuff I'm trying to unload if you want.

Hey Greg, I have almost a full gallon and will give you a batch no problem. I will get with you.

It dosent foam much at all. This isnt an option if you need foaming.

Hey Mike, really well written Review. Sorry I didnt catch it earlier, been trainning hard for BCT. I wondered about these, and the thin sponges really threw me off. I didnt expect them to be the thin type for some reason. They look exactly like the foam pads that come with the new White or Black wax tubes. Im a rinseless wash junkie, and will defenitely check these out as well as some of that Pinnacle Waterless Wash. Thanks for taking the time to review this product!

Thanks. I'm looking for so a shampoo to foam in the venus spray bottles I just picked up.

I'll put some sonax perfect finish for you in a small bottle for you to try. It is an amazing polish. You only need to work it for a minute to a minute half. It's like pf2500 that finishes better. You only need 2 small drops so the bottle I got will last forever.

Hey Aaron, The sponges are half the thickness of the traditional yellow wax applicators. Stop by your favorite place and pick some up. I recommend them for waterless/rinseless wash junkies. The pinnacle waterless wash is fantastic and it is a great alternative to Meguiar's UW&WA.

How is the training going for you?

I will fill half a quart bottle or so for you and bring it along next time we meet up.

Interested in the Sonax PF. Maybe you could spare enough so I can one step my soft Black BMW?

Yeah I noticed how thin they were. Im assuming they are just like the ones that came with that toothpaste looking wax that Megs came up with LoL. I havent seen them locally, ill probably order some eventually. Trainning is going well, alot of running & general work outs. When I come back ill defenitely check out Pinnacle Waterless, as I use alot of Megs UW&WA often, and its not cost effective.

I have used the dryer sheet when the bugs get bad, but wonder what it is doing to the sealant/wax. I may try these.
