Any recommendations for treating rubber floor mats without making them slippery? It seems like any products for rubber say not to use them on mats, pedals, etc.

I would only wash them regularly. It's like the steering wheel, better safe than sorry. All you need is for your foot to slip off the brake and hit someone.

I have all weather rubber hexomats that I use APC on, scrub and spray off. I let them dry off in the sun and I have not had any issues with them. They didn't feel slippery afterwards, but this may be due to the hex pattern on the mat as the reason I haven't had any problems.

:iagree: ^^^^^^

Wash with soap & water, air dry and maybe use a mild rubber treatment/conditioner to keep them soft and not slick .....

Does anyone have experience with Duragloss Tire & Rubber Mat Dressing?

Dressing, generally makes rubber look shinny . Just wash them.

I just wash them, and then use a bit of Meg's Quik Interior Detailer on them.

Have you found a rubber conditioner that will do this? I tried 303 AP on the passenger side and it was very slick. 303 Vinyl & Fabric Cleaner does a good job of cleaning without making slippery. OPC works well too.

I clean with Opticlean and dry ... no dressing and no slippery mess that could cause an accident.

I have used it on exterior window weatherstrips. It has silicon and I believe wouldnt be safe on mats.. I agree with Alan T. and others except I have used APC's with good results too!

Killr do you mean Power Clean or Opti Clean. Opti Clean is loaded with polymers which I would have been slick on a mat. If thats what you meant, I will try it!

I use 303 AP on the matts in my Jeep and in the Audi. I wiped it on and then went over it with another towel.

I never found it to be slippery.

I have found that ONR mixed a little stronger than regular dilution rate for rinseless wash after an APC clean leaves mats with a deep, rich, black look. I know some detailers who use this method on motorcycle tires and seats.

I made the huge mistake a couple years ago of putting Finish Kare's Top Kote on some rubber floor mats. Talk about slippery! Aye Carumba!

I always worry about slips of the foot when cleaning these... I put all the detail products away and use a nice soft brush and Dawn dish soap. never fails.

The more you use the dish soaps the more you're taking away from the rubber and it's chemical makeup ............ you'll eventually see cracking within the rubber. Dawn will strip all added & natural protection over time.

:iagree:

I keep a sprayer with ONR at a bit stronger than QD strength and use it as a spray & wipe. It works well on rubber without leaving any residue.

That said, I use PB's Natural Look on my rubber mats, buff off and a wipe with ONR QD and have experienced no slipperiness. If your mats are hard, shiney rubber this may not work as well... mine are matte and a very soft compound. Whatever you use a test spot on the back side may be adviseable.

I use it with good results. I cut it 50% with water, after cleaning and drying the mats spray very little and work it around with a wheel brush. Too slippery? You used too much. Takes very little.

Great idea TadI use 3 oz ONR in aqt bottle for running boards and it isnt slick either.

This guy has the right idea but he is using the wrong scrubbing bubbles, you want the one with the green lid, not yellow. This guy is also cleaning carpet mats, but bubbles work nice on rubber and vinyl mats. It make black rubber mats look new. He also does not need the APC if he gets the bubbles with the green lid. I picked this tip up from a high end detail er on West Coast, very well know and instructor, trainer. Laugh if you like but it works very good. No slick surface when done. Scrubbing Bubbles is not cheap. Now I didn't watch the video, just seen the product he was using.
