Purchased PC kit, suggest polish?

I know I'm probably opening a big can'o'worms here because there's a lot of different product out there.

Limiting to what I can get here on Autogeek, I'd like some suggestions on what I need to pick up to polish out the following on my 2005 VW Beetle convertible.

With the Fall sale, I picked up the Porter Cable 7424XP Perfect starter kit. So, I have what is in that kit available. If I need more/different pads or whatnot, please let me know.

I'm really new at this, so go easy on me :buffing:

The rear quarters and trunk pretty much look like this.


This is the driver's side door which is the worse of the two. Lots of vertical light scratches, looks like previous owner had a small dog.


The worst of the car by far is the front. Lots of swirls and some holograms.


Also, as an aside, I'd like some suggestions for the chrome strip around the top of the bodywork. It's scratched, pitted, and cloudy. (I realize the pits will still be there, but the rest I'd like to smooth out and clean up)


And a final note, any advice on this scratch near the door? My fingernail catches in it.
 
Menzerna SIP and Nano, Megs 105 and 205, or Wolfgang TSR and FG. All are great polishes. On reds, for sealants Wolfgang 3.0 or Four Star UPP. Now thats some great hits !!
 
Pretty overwhelming answer. :)

Any ideas on the brightwork? (doubt it's actually chrome)

Oh and I've got some rock chips I'm going to work on up front. Should I do the polish and what not first, or get the rock chips fixed first then wait for them to cure before polishing?
 
M105 is da bomb! But difficult to work with at first. Even now, I've used it on over 6 cars, but still occasionally have trouble working it before it dries. Practice. I need more practice.
 
I'm very partial towards the Megs M105/M205 products. Awesome combination.
As mentioned, M105 takes a bit of practice to get used to using but once you get your technique dialed in there isn't much else on the market that will rival the end results.
Follow up with your choice of LSP - but THAT'S an entirely different thread/debate that you will get 100 different answers to :)
 
I have not tried the Megs or the wolfgang or Pinnacle combos, but I have been very impressed with the Menzerna Power Gloss, SIP, and Nano trio. It has worked wonders so far with just a PC or Griots machine.

You will want to get any paint work done first. Unless you plan to wait until next spring then clean and polish now.

LSP...Last Step Product, like Max Wax or Wolfgang Sealant.


As a fellow Noob I would like to give my opinion on 105/205 meguiars products VS. the Wolfgang Swirl remover products. Maybe for a pro the Megs combo is the way to go but for a noob like us the Wolfgang is easy, forgiving, and gives awesome results. It will be a long time before I try any other polishes now that I have found the WG swirl remover combo. Just my $.02

Not sure what to do on the bright work? If you can get a good picture of the situation you might post you question on the "ask the expert" section here with the picture to see what Mike will give you for advice.

I'm with buckskincolt here, if you Just bought the pc in the fall sale then you have a learning curve with the polisher ... Why add another one with the 105/205 combo at first?

The wolfgang is "bubba proof" according to mike Phillips and IMO I agree. Easy to use with fantastic results!

I think I am starting to sound like a salesperson, where's my cut Meghan?

I have the menzerna line at home and haven't used it since I got the wolfgang. Plus the wolfgang product is manufactured by menzerna, how can you go wrong?

I know wolfgang and menzerna work on my cars and I am sure that he megs combo does a fantastic job too. Just pick your poison and start polishing!

We do want pics though!
 
105 and 205 are just as easy or easier to use then Wolfgang/Menzerna products, especially with a pc. For those that said they are not need to go back and use them or check your technique. Also these two products will get more done than the other products.

As far as cleaning your trim, you can go over it with the same polish that you used on the paint.
