question about 7424xp

I just used porter cable 7424xp on my car.
I used meguiar's DA system
It was first time I used that machine and I think something is not right.
When I did compounding I set speed on 5 and I marked on backing plate
but somehow when do heavy pressure pad doesn't rotate
it will rotate if I set it on 6
Also when I set it on 3-4 it will vibrate too much
anybody know what's wrong with it?
or I have lack of skill?

The Meguiar's DA System is actually pretty easy to use some I'm thinking it's probably technique related...
