Hello everyone!

I'm new around here and have a few questions. I'm working on a 2009 Infiniti FX35 in black obsidian with the Scratch Shield Clear Coat. I've run into a few problems with the hardness of this paint. First off when it comes to polishing the clear coat on this it's as hard as a rock! But the wierd thing about the clear coat is that it scratches and mars so easily!

When It comes to polishing I've run into a problem. I'm using my Porter Cable 7424XP with Lake County pads and I'm trying to remove the swirls and no matter what I do nothing makes a dent in these swirls. First I tried Poorboy's SSR1 on a white pad and that did nothing to the swirls in the paint. Next I tried Meguiar's M205 on a white polishing pad and that did nothing either to the swirls. So then I stepped it up to Poorboy's SSR2.5 on and orange pad and it did absolutely nothing to the swirls yet again. Maybe it removed a few, but nothing at all really. So I'm kind of stumbed on what exactly to do now. Nothing seems to work on this paint. I use it on speeds 4-5 with 15-20 pounds of pressure with steady movement and overlapping passes.

I happen to have some yellow cutting pads here with Meguiar's M105 Ultra Cut Compound. Mike I was wondering what is your take on this? You think I should try that aggressive combination next since everything else has failed? Since the clear is rock hard it, it won't remove alot of clear right? And since it's rock hard I figured that pad combination won't leave behind any hazing and what not, that way I can clean it up with M205 on a white polishing pad??Feed back please

Thanks Mike and everyone else!!

By the way here is a picture of my love:

I've only worked on one infiniti with that paint. There were light swirls that came out alright with 106FA on a soft green LC pad. Try some menzerna polish it tends to work better for me on soft paint.

I have never had the pleasure of working on an Infinity with the self healing paint but others on the forum have posted their experience in the past. Nissan GTRs had (have?) this paint as well, so you may want to search the forum for those corrections. The West Coast is still waking up so those members may chime in soon, in the mean time here is another article on the same topic from last year:
