Question about polishing

Im new to detailing anf i have question.
When u want to polish or compounding vehicle surface i notice
Some cars have thin pinstripe on side doors. Do u suppose to tape off that pin stripe? Or is it ok to run over that pinstripe and its not gonna remove that pinstripe?

Small stripes should be protected and covering with painters tape will work well. As long as the strip is not already lifting or peeling painters tape will work for you. Painters tape sticks and protects it peels off easily without damaging or removing the pinstripe.
