My wife and I had to go a dinner function for work tonight and it poured down rain while we were in the restaurant. We had about a 30-40 minute drive home and the car dried off on the way. The car is completely dry at this point. The car surfaces feel cool to the touch, but I popped open the bonnet anyway to keep it from baking. Do I need to wash it tonight, or can I wait until tomorrow?

I think you are fine.

Never heard of popping the hood to keep the rain from drying on it from the heat.

damn may have to start doing this, but my wife thinks I'm crazy enough as it is

Personally, I'd use ONR for a quick rinseless wash. It hardly takes me an hour or less on a full size sedan. (kinda gives you the peace of mind that the paint is clean!) (And protected if you use a spray wax after..)

Or even a waterless wash would do, if the rain wasn't muddy.

Muddy rain > rinse with pw > ONR or waterless wash, if time constraint is there!

Being a bit excessive, Iin his case with no mud I use my Foam Gun let it dwell a minute or two, rinse and then spray with QD and dry with a Guzzler.

Try Ultima waterless wash, it's also a great rinsless wash

I've tried Ultima, DP Rinseless Wash & Gloss, and Optimum No Rinse. They all work really well and I was surprised how they left the finish once dried.

If you're driving it on the road it's a daily driver so expect something less than perfect or it'll drive you into Obsessive Compulsive Disorder....

Use some waterless wash and a few microfiber towels or detail spray....

I thought I was bad, but you're all OCD is you'll wash a clean, dry, car at 11:00 at night. :dunno:

I normally use ONR. I ended up going to bed though. I figured as tired as I was I'd probably do more harm than good. Besides, the mosquitos are killer right now. The car was completely dry anyway. I had just put a coat of sealant and wax on a few days ago. I probably wouldn't be so obsessive if I hadn't just paid to have the car polished. I was also advised to beware the rain.

I keep a mosquito repellant handy and apply it all over before going out to detail!!
(else mosquitoes and flies make my like hell, literally)

I guess as long as you ONR it before the paint is exposed to the sun, waterspotting shouldn't occur!
