Question about washing pads in washer machine

Do buffing pads float when washing them in the washing machine. Which machine works better top or front loader for pad washing and microfiber towel washing?
 
Well, they sort of float, I'd guess a front loader would be better for pads (I don't have one), IMO you really need to brush/scrub the pads or they won't come clean in the washer. I frequently use a Grit Guard and some Snappy Clean to rub the face of the pad against.
 
Can pads soak overnight without causing any delamination issue down the road? Thanks for the replies guys.
 
This is my process and I never had problem with any kind of pad.
Bucket, warm water, 50ml apc (for 4, 5 pads) let them sit for about 5 minutes, agitate a bit, rinse them.

I throw my pads in with the "b" towels... not the "a". The weight of the MF towels and agitation, they get dragged down and don't float.

Yes, pads can soak overnight. During my work time, I change pads frequently, usually 6 to compound, 4 to polish etc... plus my test pads.
I keep a bucket filled with LC Snappy Clean mixed with water. At the end of a day detailing, I usually just leave them soaking and deal with clean up the next day.
After a long day of detailing, dinner and a Guinness (or two) at my local/favorite tavern takes precedence.
 
I have never had issues with foam pads, and normally just spray them with a pad cleaner before putting them in the washer, and dry them in the dryer with the fluff air (no heat) setting. I have however had problems with the meguiars microfiber pads separating from the velcro, but I'm not sure if it was due to washing or just normal use. But they definitely didn't last as long as foam pads. I can't even recall having any foam pads separating from the velcro yet.
 
To each his/her own. In my humble opinion, I wouldn't wash my pads in a washing machine; I wouldn't want to take the chance that the backing would separate from the pad. I soak mine in warm water with pad cleaner, use a brush to scrub them as clean as I can get them, and air dry them face up. It works for me, and I can keep them a little longer that way.
 
Java - i've let pads soak in an APC/water mix for as long as a week without any problems whatsoever. In a few cases i forgot what i had in that covered pail over there! My only and few issues with delamination was excessive machine heat, never from washing.

In response to the OP, i don't machine wash mine like JSMet*. I can do as good if not better job by hand...quickly. Plus i'm not sure how aggressive my washer is. I just like to keep whatever touches paint for gently used. Of course that excludes MF towels.

* for the love of God, JS, tell me you're not a Mets fan. Die hard BoSox fan here. If you are then i just agreed with a Mets fan. (j/k dood) : )
