First off i want to say hi to Mike & every member of the forum. I may be over thinking this but i am ocd when it comes to my paint. When i polish a car using m205 i usually go to a sealant like blackfire wet diamond. My question is has anyone ever looked into wiping the paint down with IPA before applying the sealant to get a better bond between the sealant & the clear coat rather then the sealant bonding to the left over oils in the polish? Or would this diminish the gloss from the polish? I personally have never tried this.

Funny that Mwoolfso published that article, I was just reading it in Mike's book: Mike Phillips’ The Complete Guide to a Show Car Shine Paperback Book
on page 142.

Typically after correction I either use CarPro Erasure (if doing coatings) or Megs D114 (for all others). I like D114 because it's high in lubricity and as the tag line states, "It Leaves Nothing Behind". It's great to get all the dust caused by 105/205 off the vehicle as well.

Problem with IPA is that you have no lubricity agents (aside from the water). And you run the risk of marring the paint that you just polished. CarPro erasure has a nice smell, and goes on quick and easy and leaves a very high gloss shine with no risk.

Nothing wrong with IPA, I just prefer the two products mentioned above. Plus once you have D114 diluted 1:128 in say a 5 Gal container, you can pretty much use it for everything. Clay-lube, QD, NRW, etc...

Personally, I like stuff that's bubba proof.

Unless the Sealant's manufacturer states
specifically that their Sealant has to be
applied to "squeaky clean" paint in order
for it to attain its best performance...I do
not perform any panel wipe-down processes.

This is a commonly recurring question and every time it is asked i read every post that answers. My approach since day 1 with sealants is a quick but complete paint wipe down. I am still of the mindset that i want the paint to be squeaky clean to give my LSP the best opportunity to bond. I used to use iso alc until i found Car Pro Eraser.

To me anyway, a quick wipedown takes me maybe 15 minutes. And its a gentle wipe with my most plush MF towels. Let the chemicals in the Eraser do what they are meant to do...NOT any aggressive pressure with my towel to "help it". Nice and gentle and no marring.

Thanks for the reply guys. So now i know some do some don't....
2 questions.
1) have you noticed any increase in the longevity of a sealant/wax when using ipa or pro eraser vs sealant directly on top of polish?
2) Does the cleaning of the oils left from polish diminish your gloss at all?

Sorry i am so freaking OCD!
