questions about using a steamer

Good evening everyone! I purchased a steamer the other day, should arrive in a couple of days. I have never used one before, and looking for a few suggestions and tips on using it for detailing. Its a McCollugh model. Comes with various attachments.
Do i spray some type of carpet cleaner on the mats before steaming, or does it do fine by itself ? Thanks for any advice.

Vacuum first thoroughly and then try steaming the spots. Do you have an extractor too? Use your steamer after applying the cleaner and letting it dwell. If you have an extractor, use it at this stage. If not, spray some hot water in a bottle and then vacuum it up. Your carpets should be pristine with this method. I got some nasty stains out of a BMW I am working on right now using this method.

No..i dont have an extractor. I will give it a try just using the steamer at this point. Thanks for the tip
