When you folks are compounding and polishing, do you ever hit it with a quick detailer before the last stage product? You know, to get off any residue, leave as smooth a surface as possible, etc.

Former Zaino user who used Z6 (their detailer) in between every step and every coat. Prolly a good way to sell some product, but what's they recommended.

Any help appreciated.

BTW, do you think they use a quick wax or something on the cars in the 500? They look pretty good. I'm thinking a wash and quick wax the night before.

What do they do?

Most of the time it is not required for a wipedown before a wax or sealant application. You can of course use something like CarPro Eraser as your wipedown agent before applying a wax or sealant although not required.

Or an IPA wipedown.

I have been using Meg's d114 diluted 1:15 as a panel wipe with good results. Eraser is great as well, but I only use it prior to applying a coating.

Eraser all the way. But, this is mostly to check my work and remove dust. If it didn't use Eraser - I'd use a waterless wash. A QD - not so much.

IMO if you want to use Z6 before the LSP I see no reason why not. Most use an IPA or dedicated cleaner for that. That being said, IMO it may not be necessary to do the pre cleansing step.

You have already wiped off the polishing compound and IMO it is ready to put the LSP on with out any IPA, Detail Spray or any other stuff.

You have the perfect shine and now protect it with the LSP. But as I said before, no harm if you do and no harm if you don't.

BTW, Z6 is some pretty good stuff. Have not used it in a long while as I feel there are better, however, still some good stuff.

Unless the LSP manufacturer specifically recommends to do so...
I would not use the archetypical Detail Spray before an LSP applcation.

A cross-over product such as Menzerna Top Inspection;
GTechniq Panel Wipe; or a rinseless-wash product such as:
Meguiars Rinse Free Express Wash (D114)...are examples
of what I've used for 'pre-LSP paint inspection tasks'.

To add, and IMO...
The following are excellent Detail Spray guidelines:
