Mike,

We have an attached garage and my wife thinks my GG is deafening. Now we have a new 6lb 5oz addition so I need to be as quiet as possible. I'd like to know what to get so I can keep polishing noise down. Doesn't matter if DA or rotary. I've read some db rating on free running machines, but I want to hear about in actual use.

Up for recording the db levels of all AGs polishers with a 5" cutting pad put to paint? That wold give a fair comparison wouldn't it?

I tend to find that everything is much quieter if my wife goes shopping while I work in the garage.

I don't have a db reader, but my ears tell me that the Flex PE ftw.

Thanks for the fast replies guys.

Rsurfer, I was thinking it'd be a rotary, but wasn't sure. I don't have any 1st hand experience with one but I may end up having to go that route.

Bsmith, I agree with that but with my work schedule I do a lot of stuff at night while everyone asleep.

Smart phone app is available for decibels I will say wear hearing protection for yourself, trust me I found out the Hard way..

Maybe your machine needs a bit of a service? Strip and regrease with good quality high temperature grease and see if that helps.

If that fails soundproofing or the Flex might be your other options.

Congrats on baby

The quietest polisher is your hand using a foam hand pad. May take you forever. Then again, may be a good excuse to stay in the garage.

All the machines are loud but some are louder than others. The GG6 is one of the loudest. The Rupes and Flex are not as loud. I dont know what the cost is but I would look into sound proofing the walls.

Wow, I feel the flex is deafening. Those gears aren't quiet. The harbor freight unit is bad too.

Well first off, CONGRATULATIONS on the new "addition" to your home! May you get many long years of use and joy out of it. ;)

Would I be up for recording the decibel levels? You betcha! Just send all your equipment to me and I'll jump right on it. I have a calibrated meter, and a spectrum analyzer. That should do.

The smart phone apps will give you 'levels' but they are not calibrated. I've tried to use them, but without calibrating they are pretty much useless. :dunno: OTOH, if you have a calibrated meter and pink noise you calibrate the app(s) to match. :props:

Thanks for the help guys. Looks like it's gonna be a tough decision. Hopefully mike will chime in with his opinion.

Hello,

There's a claim that the new Rupes Duetto makes less noise.

'Makes vibration and noise a thing of the past!'

This looks like a very interesting product, hope to get one soon.

For my actual G220v2, I use ear protection all the time.

Kind Regards.
