I watched apex: story of the hypercar on Netflix. Anyway the guy who makes the game forza motorsport is in it. I've never got into video games but this looks pretty cool. I'm looking at all the stuff you can buy. It's very expensive. You can even buy a racing seat and steering wheel. Anyone get into these games. Is it worth investing in all the controls to make it realistic

Not ever have been; nor ever will be:
a Gamer...

•And:
-Just like in today's marketplace:
"gaming-promotions", in years past,
have often been over-the-top.
-I remember some of the promotional
ads/hype from those years ago:

•I also remember trying to play
Pong on the kids Atari 2600.
-"Joysticks"? Not so joyful for me.
-Gave up forever playing video
games from that point on.

That ad's funny. I interviewed Stevie Wonder when he was in the hospital from a traffic accident while traveling through NC. His response when I asked him "What happened," he said "I was driving."

I have played racing games as far back as the Commodore 64. Can't even remember what the game was called. I played everything from the first Need For Speed (PC) to the current Forza (Xbox One). A few years ago I played a few games on PC with a wheel, shifter, and pedals. I still prefer a handheld controller. I feel I have more control and am able to finesse the control. IMO if you want a true simulation nothing beats Gran Turismo. A lot of racing game are what I call "Arcade". Just my 2 pennies

When I did laps in a lambo in vegas they had us practice in a video game simulator. I did terrible in the video game. Maybe that's a sign to not bother

For a guy who's got a videogame avatar, I'm not much of a gamer. Kind of funny since I do have just about every system available on the US market (Vectrex, anyone?).

As a fan of motorsport, I never really got into racing simulators. Most of my gaming hours are on flight simulators - current favorite being IL-2 Sturmovik series.

And my all-time favorite: Tetris.

I don't remember skipping a day without playing the last 20+ years. I must have went through 5/6 Game Boy units & different versions playing this game. Love it. Keeps the mind sharp.

With that, I saw this setup in Vegas. Unfortunately, I never got the chance to give it a spin. It broke before I had my turn...lol

Pole Position, Super Breakout, and Pac Man. All are classic Atari 2600 games from my really young days. I love the arcade games Operation Wolf and Lethal Enforcers.

Bob,
That Stevie Wonder ad is priceless. I wonder is Stevie Wonder has a favorite LSP. I would bet he could "feel" the difference in slickness/smoothness in many products. I'd pick Natty's red from a fragrance standpoint. If I was blind I'd still wash my "drivers" car:)

I've always loved racing games. I used to have a cheap wheel for PC probably 10 years ago, but ever since then I moved to console gaming and always just used the controller. I haven't had much time for video games over the last few years, and so haven't really invested any time, money or effort into them.

But I'm sure having a setup with the wheel, pedals and seat would make racing games even more fun! Like OP said, the sky is really the limit with these setups, from pretty basic as I described, up to rigs with motion and multiple TV screens.

This one is very unforgiving. You'll hate it and love it at the same time.

Speaking of arcade, remember Zaxxon?

I could go an hour on a single quarter at this one. One time the owner came over and pulled the plug while people gathered around to watch the action. I guess it ate into the joint's profit. He did gave me one of those "free play" punch cards - a week's worth of one credit per day - to make up for shutting down the party. lol
